It takes a lot of time for rom hackers to do translating. It goes a lot faster when you've got access to the complete script and full source code.

Plus there's the fact that the most popular games have already been translated by rom hackers, which means the official translators would only have to polish off the rough edges and remove all the hackers' stupid in-jokes (DE-JAP!).

Add to this the fact that the Wii alone will be around for about 4-5 more years and the fact that as long as it remains profitable Nintendo will probably keep the same VC setup in their next system, and translation time pretty much becomes a non-issue.

As opposed to something that would actually be technical and complicated, like adding region-specific coding to convert games into a video format that noone outside Europe gives a damn about (PAL WHINERS!).

Not that I'm calling anyone here a PAL whiner. But they're out there, constantly boo-hooing about how noone will give them special attention because their continent is too stupid to convert to NTSC like the rest of the world.

Excuse me? Pal is superior when it comes to colour saturation. plus most of our tvs can show 60Hz now, Ninty just won't give us a chance

I can make a very long list of technological innovations that were made extinct by technically inferior alternatives.
I maintain that noone outside Europe cares, nor will they ever.

Fine but if you were stiffed the way we have during the years, you'd complain too

NTSC (never the same colour twice – at least in the early days) has less scan lines but ran at 60Hz when Europe went for a TV (PAL) standard they had more scan lines at the cost of only running at 50Hz.

When a NTSC recorded TV show is shown on a PAL terrain it does look noticeably grainy. Of course 50Hz is worse for your eyes than 60Hz.

In the days of 16bit consoles dev couldn't be bothered to redraw the graphics so we ended up with PAL games having black boards.

So it’s 6 of one half a dozen of the other.

The DC was the first console I came across the option to run PAL-60. If you can use this combo it will give you the best output on a standard def TV.

Lets hope there is a global standard for HD right now I think there still quite a few
