What's new about it?

I'm just curious before I go spend another three hours getting the Shop channel to work (and failing)

New changes to the browser include, but are not limited to:

* Parental Controls

* Improved zooming and scrolling

* An improved zoomed font

* Shortened startup times

* Quicker access to "favorites"

* An ability to hide the toolbar

* Buttons that will instantly type common preset letters, such as "www" or ".com"

* Built-in Yahoo! or Google Search

(The above is blatantly copypasta'd from Kotaku)

Well... Wiicade just became useless. They killed the exploit that let you use the Wii controls in a flash game.

Edit: I am now considering myself the first person to accomplish Wii-Irc. I used ircatwork.com and it's a bit annoying. Some of the side is cut off and the bottom scroll bar keeps moving to the right but it's fun. I wish I could find more webbased IRC clients though .

Just read on Wiili of a bug found in the new Internet Channel. It says go here and click "Season 11" while the page is loading to freeze the system up, but I managed to do it by just scrolling down and clicking around a lot, I don't think I actually hit that link. What I found especially interesting is the Wiimote freezes too. You can hold the Power button all day and it'll stay on. I also noticed you can hold the Wii power button for a few seconds to do a hard shutdown instead of pulling the plug.

More proof that "next-gen" consoles are simply computers in disguise. XD But for the Wii to crash like that is odd indeed. Wonder how long it will take until Nintendo notices that little bug.

I tried navigating to the individual pages/frames/Flash files, and nothing unusual happened. I think it's just overloaded from all the ads and crap on the page.

It crashed Opera here (as in, the real browser) too.

It probably is just overloaded from all the junk on the page

Man this just keeps on getting better and better:

"We are really excited about the Wii game because there are so many options for the Wii remote. However, you will play the game with a guitar peripheral and it will be similar to a guitar you've seen in the past."

-RedOctane Guy.

He also confirmed that Guitar Hero III on Wii contains features included in other versions of the upcoming game - such as online play and downloadable music.

-IGN

I'm kinda bummed by the guitar controller, but kind of expected it. But my disappointment is really overshadowed immensely by my excitement of including those online features.

Ah, but co-op with drums would be a possibility.

So, if someone managed to get a Wii for (including tax) 274.63, exactly how much profit should one make by selling it to a friend that's been looking for one since the release date?

(the wii's unopened, BTW; hasn't been touched.)

At least 300 bucks, I'd suppose, probably more.
You'd be willing to scam a friend out of 30 bucks?
I still can't find a Wii anywhere D: Although Roger's Video is supposed to be pretty good with waiting lists

The previously unreleased outside Japan PC Engine game Battle Lode Runner is now available on the VC, with more unreleased games (SMB2) on their way. Dare we hope for translations of unreleased games actually featuring japanese text in the future? Like, say, Fire Emblem games?

Fire Emblem games?

If this happened, I'd spend alot of money on the VC. I doubt they'd do it, though, it takes a long time to do translating, and if they didn't take a long time, we'd get a lot of engrish.

It takes a lot of time for rom hackers to do translating. It goes a lot faster when you've got access to the complete script and full source code.

Plus there's the fact that the most popular games have already been translated by rom hackers, which means the official translators would only have to polish off the rough edges and remove all the hackers' stupid in-jokes (DE-JAP!).

Add to this the fact that the Wii alone will be around for about 4-5 more years and the fact that as long as it remains profitable Nintendo will probably keep the same VC setup in their next system, and translation time pretty much becomes a non-issue.

As opposed to something that would actually be technical and complicated, like adding region-specific coding to convert games into a video format that noone outside Europe gives a damn about (PAL WHINERS!).

Not that I'm calling anyone here a PAL whiner. But they're out there, constantly boo-hooing about how noone will give them special attention because their continent is too stupid to convert to NTSC like the rest of the world.

Maybe the Wii version will have custom star power. I could see the videos that would show up on YouTube.

And I hope they aren't bringing the SGay to the Wii. The Xbox has the coolest guitar as of yet. But there are still more cool guitars out there (my wish being the Dean Dime Razorback).

As true as this is, if I were doing a professional translation, I wouldn't base it on some hacker's that may or may not be accurate.

Again this is true, but it is pretty stupid that Nintendo couldn't take an extra step to make the games not have the same problems they did ages ago. It's kind of a rip.

Hm, I wonder if they'd release updated versions of old games, like they did ages ago with Mario All-Stars. Same game, new graphics and sound. That'd rock.

The fan-translation would have to be at least semi-accurate or else people wouldn't be playing it. And again, the official translation team would have access to the full original script, so they would still be able to check for accuracy and make any necessary corrections/adjustments a lot faster and easier than with just starting from scratch.

Things are going great here, and we finally bought a Wii today. Right now, we have LoZ: TP, Super Paper Mario, the included Wiimote, and Wii Sports. Actually, we've had Twilight Princess since Christmas, so it's great to actually be able to play it.
