So I'm about to leave right now for Cedar Point. Only problem, high of 60 for Sandusky today which means it going to be freezing with all the wind, and if it rains (which it almost always does up there) its going to be miserable. Luckily, according to Tina the forecast is sunny, so hopefully we'll luck out and it won't rain.
We're going up there for my sister's birthday, but she has a knack for always picking the worst days to go. I.E. she always wants to go in May on the worst day of the week. I went up there one other time when it was that cold, but it also down poured all day to the point where we just kept going on the water rides since we were already soaked. As long as we don't get drenched, I'll be happy. Its still gonna be awesome either way though. I haven't been able to go up there since 2004. And even when we were soaking wet and cold all day we still had a blast. Although rain hitting your face at 92mph on Millennium Force and riding Wicked Twister in the hail are interesting sensations to say the least. |

Posted by blacknemesis13Hey, hey, wait a sec. 60 with light rain is pretty much my ideal weather. |

Don't be silly. Rain makes coasters faster! It's a well-known fact that Nemesis at Alton Towers travels faster and exerts more Gs in the rain |

There's a big difference between 60 in the sun walking around, and 60 in the shade standing stagnant with wind and or rain. The later is when 60 is cold. Anyway, the weather actually turned out to be near perfect. No rain at all, it ended up getting to 70, and the only time we were really cold was in the morning in line for Millennium Force. The whole line was in the shade, it was still in the upper 50s, windy, and a whole lot more wind whenever the train rushed by us at 92. Even then it wouldn't have been bad, but since it felt so warm walking in the sun to get there, we had just put our coats and everything else to keep us warm away.
We had a blast! The only thing we didn't get to do was ride Top Thrill Dragster. whenever we were over there it was always shut down due to mechanical problems. Plus the park closed at 7 today. We usually go on a day when we can stay until 11, so we didn't get to ride as many as we usually do, but we went on all the must rides, Millennium Force, Mantis, Raptor, Magnum, wicked Twister, and we got to ride Maxair and Skyhawk which weren't built last time we were there. They weren't as big as I thought they would be, but they were still fun. Maverick isn't open yet, but it doesn't look too impressive so far, it seems awful small. We just now got back, I'm about to get a shower and eat some pizza. Oh, one bad thing about the sun, I never thought to bring sunblock so now we all have a sunburn, but it isn't too bad. |

You know I was certain that -30 degree wind chills in blowing snow such as the ones I've been through in Illinwah were colder.
I could be wrong. I couldn't really stay out more that 15 minutes with three layers on to know before I had to go back in for another 15. |

Posted by blacknemesis13 Not surprising, the thing is practically a geriatric in terms of maintenance now. It's comparitively brand new, though :-\ |

Posted by RankoUh yeah, last time I checked it was too I think I'm just a little paranoid when I go up there now that no matter what, the weather will be like it was when we were soaked all day. Thats what makes it miserable. 50 or 60 isn't that bad, but walking around for 12 hours in the same drenched shoes and socks and light clothing that is now one with your skin because nothing ever evaporates even when it isn't raining due the humidity, isn't exactly the most comfortable thing in 50 or 60 degree weather. Especially with the 30+ mph winds while your waiting in line for Wicked Twister. Thats why I always bring a change of clothes now. Or at least a different pair of shoes and socks. That was the worst thing, even when we did manage to get somewhat dry, our feet were just crying out for mercy. I think they were about twice their size by the time we got in the car to go home. Didn't stop us from having fun though. For one thing, being wet all day anyway gave us an excuse to keep going on the water rides. We may as well have been at soak city all day. And actually, that wouldn't have been the first time I've been at a pool all day when it was 60. Oh and it was funny, everyone I was with bought a raincoat AFTER they were already soaked and we were about to go on Snake River Falls. I'm like what's the point? So I was the only one who just walked around in their clothes all day not caring. But what was really great was that my sister's raincoat flew up over her head right as we hit the bottom on Snake River Falls and got drenched. And yes, Posted by Kasumi-AstraThey also seemed to run more smoothly in the rain. But they also kept shutting them down, mainly just whenever lightning was spotted though. Plus the lines were way short since most people went home after giving up on the rain to let up. We rode Raptor like 6 times in one hour at one point after it just opened up from being down for a while. Anyway, back to yesterday's trip instead of the one from 5 years ago: Posted by Kasumi-AstraYeah, but its still been up for three years. I thought they would have worked some the kinks out of it by now. Skyhawk and Maxair wern't shut down once while we were there, and they're both newer. Of course Top Thrill Dragster is far more complex than those, so I give them some leeway.Posted by blacknemesis13Not surprising, the thing is practically a geriatric in terms of maintenance now. It's comparatively brand new, though :-\ Actually, since the park has really only been open for a few weeks so far this year, a lot of rides were still shut down (like Snake River Falls and Blue Streak) or were only half running. It was like the park was only half open. Only one Gemini coaster was running, only one of the power towers was working, Maverick's still half built, and the park closed at 7 instead of 10. Thats one reason why I usually prefer to go in June. The park's fully open by then. We lucked out on a lot of rides though. We got to ride Raptor with only a 15 minute wait, and with Mantis, the lines were so jumbled for the seats, that the line for front was actually shorter than the other seats and no one noticed but us We ended up getting to ride front seat on just about everything we went on, and the only ride where it was really a much longer wait was Millennium Force. Of course, that's the only ride we care about riding front seat on, so extra half hour wait for us. Oh, another thing we went on yesterday, Cedar Creek Mine ride. That's like the awesomely bad roller coaster of Cedar Point. Its great because it sucks, and is therefore a must ride! You never have to wait at all in line, but there's always enough people to fill up the train. Then the fun starts: Everyone screaming "OH MY GOD, WE'RE GONNA DIE!!" as you takes the little two foot teaser drop, it taking what seems like a half an hour to climb the second hill, sounding like the whole thing's about to fall apart the whole time. If you're there with the right people in the train all riding it because it sucks, its just the funnest atmosphere. I always feel like I'm 7 again where the most crap ass rides were the funnest thing ever, and you couldn't wait for the carnival to come to town! Plus, while going up the hill, you could see where two geese had decided to nest below the ride, and there were tons of baby geese all over down there. It was the cutest thing. Oh yeah, the Canadian Geese are taking over Cedar Point, as well as the rest of Ohio. Hence the "Please do not feed the geese" signs all over the place in a futile attempt to get them to lose interest. Especially when they are right next to a bird food dispenser with no other birds around And Anya, I think by the time you go they should be back into the full swing of things. Thats the week when they start being open their regular hours, so everything should at least be running. I hope you can go on everything you want to ride while your up there. Plus the weather should be nice. Since this was our rainy week, we should have a pretty nice warming trend form here on out. Just remember to bring sunblock. My whole face is burnt red from yesterday. Oh, and you do know that everything there is ridiculously overpriced right? We ate at Johnny Rockets and it cost 80 bucks! Mine alone was $15 and all I got was a burger and fries but hey, thats how they keep in business. |

Posted by blacknemesis13 Ooo...yea that I'll have to agree with. The temperature isn't as bad as the precipitation and the wind that goes with it. Considering you were drenched, ow. There used to be a ride at Six Flags St. Louis that left me completely drenched for an hour or six...I think it was by the name Tidal Wave...and that was the worst mistake I did towards the end of summer when it was cold. My poor shorts. |
