I had a Network and Systems Security exam yesterday, and it was astonishingly simple. I even escaped half-an-hour before the end 
The questions included the benefits of using Salt, pre-shared keys in 802.11 networks, the factors of one-time-pad keys that makes OTP so secure, explaining and giving examples of transposition and substitution ciphers and using hashing algorythms to evaluate the integrity of documents. I love papers that let you choose your questions from a selection, these topics were right up my street |

I just had a re-exam in OOP071.
I had fear that I would miss it. xD So I constantly did check the date for it, over and over again. Even the hour before it started. I finished it unusually quickly for being me (two hours!), and apart from some question related to lists in Java (hadn't used the much  ) I pretty much aced it. Wouldn't surprise me if I got the top grade on it.
I have another exam on Monday. Some people are thinking of skipping it and take the re-exam instead (due to having lots of stuff to do), but I will at least give it a try since I live close to the college anyway. I'm kinda ahead on my group project anyway. 
And yes, with the Swedish system you can miss exams. You can retake as many times you need, as long the course (or a similar one) still exists. Heh, I never got selection questions on exams. I gotten true/false ones... where wrong answers gives you negative points. I'm not fond of those, especially when they give a huge amount of points. Posted by Tanks Basically, if you ask which is harder comparing anything academically between high school and college, college will be harder. Now, if the comparison is social, like, purchasing beer underage, I'd say it goes the other way and college is easier. At least that's what I've found. Finished finals two weeks ago and got two really big surprises on my transcripts, and one smaller one. I was expecting a B+ in Electronics II, but I got a C+ (that hurt a lot) I was praying for a C+ in my Signals II class and got a B I was sure I was gettting an A in my Power Systems course and got a B+ Oh well, only one more year of undergrad finals left. |

University finals are harder, they're often entire essays or huge writing assignments, or long imvolved math problems, or writing computer programs on paper, and generally cover the whole semester. However, you usually have some choice like "Answer 5 of these 10 questions, including at least one from each group" or something. High school finals are often just multiple choice and matching and a lot of mine only covered the more recent topics. |

But yeah, I missed my last final as an undergrad. However, for the first time, ever, I will receive an A, B, C, and a D in the same semester. Not sure if that is something I should be proud of.  |

...i'm not sure about the American grading system though. None complains if they get a 3, which is the lowest grade apart from U (which would be the equilant to F). Here, it's based on percentages for the more quantifiable classes such as math. Your letter grade is based on the percentage of answers you have right on a test (often weighted using points; maybe one long question is 20 points but a quick one is only 5). The final average is almost always weighted. In my last math class, one quiz was worth only 1/10th of an exam, and the final was worth 1.5 times an exam.
Grading scales vary, but this is the most common: 0% to 59% = F = 0.0 60% to 69% = D = 1.0 70% to 79% = C = 2.0 80% to 89% = B = 3.0 90% to 100% = A = 4.0 The numerical equivalents (0.0 to 4.0) are used to calculate GPA; the letter grades are what appear on your transcript for each class. F is failing, anything above is usually passing, but you can only have a certain number of D's (I think 2) to count for your degree. Plus and minus grades are used for percentages close to the borderline. Usually it's like 70% to 72% is C- and 77% to 79% is C+ and so on, but no A+ grades are used, and D and F don't use them, so the full scale is F D C- C C+ B- B B+ A- A. Classes like English, literature, philosophy, etc. usually don't use any points or percentages. Instead, each paper or assignment is directly given a letter grade and I have no idea how the final grade is determined from those, really. It works differently in each state, school, and level of schooling. I believe New York only uses percentages and no letter grades at all, for instance. My high school did use D+ and D-, and the failing grade was called E instead of F. |

Ah, there's no kind of average here. You do get amount of points for each course you pass, but it's the same whenever you got a 3 or 5. The courses grades are listed individually. To finish of a course, you just need to complete everything in it... some courses doesn't have exams, but at least still have some form of assignment or project you do. Most of the courses I been in was pretty much labs+exam though.

I just had my Applications Architectures and Frameworks exam. Lots of stuff to learn about .net. Plenty of questions about JEE. I completed secttions B & C ahead of time. I didn't complete all of section A, which requires people to write a ten-slide presentation about .net with writers' notes. I just ended up listing features such as Common Language Runtime, Class Library, Windows Presentation Foundation and crap like that. It's been the most difficult so far, but it's only worth 30% of the module, and I'm over 70% average so far anyway
I was happy that I turned up alone- 40 minutes before the exam begins, and I remember the exam is being held outside the city centre! I had to run to the station to get a taxi |

Posted by Ailure The even more fortunate thing is I don't need this course to graduate. I'm not sure if this makes what happen to me sad or pathetic or both. Other an a larger than normal GPA hit, nothing is going to happen. 3 of my 198 units can be attributed to a D grade. Lesson learned from this: (1) always double, triple, quadruple check when your finals are, and (2) do not take astrobiology [the course I missed the open book, open notes, open laptop final for] |

Of course, open book/notes tests tend to be harder than closed-book tests, because the teacher will jack up the difficulty to compensate and it'll take a while flipping frantically through your book and notes. Tests are deceptive like that. People think true and false tests are easy, but (unless the teacher's a moron or trying to fill a little of an exam) they're usually pretty tricky. |
