Posted by Eyeball Eaters That's a new one. Zelda being not-so-famous and underrated. Many people regard Zelda III as the best game ever. Isolated Warrior for the NES was a very fun game indeed, and I've never heard of it until I bought it. |

What about Rygar for the NES? Unique game instead of an arcade port, and pretty short once you get the hang of the levelling up system, and the controls can be weird as well... but it's fun. If Tecmo could put Solomon's Key (another underrated gem) on the VC, then Rygar shouldn't be a problem. (And Mighty Bomb Jack but that is coming to the VC soon.) |

Posted by Colin Its a shame the PS2 sequel was pretty ... meh. Seemed kind of like a slimmed down version of Onimusha/God of War or something. But yeah, the original is great fun. Reminds me of Act Raiser. There's another great SNES gem. Very unique game too. Its too bad the sequel completely took out the building / strategy elements that made the original unique. |

I heard the PS2 version was a fun little remake if a tad on the short/easy side. That seemed to be the one real drawback and what kept it from getting good reviews.
Tecmo were on a roll with their early NES titles. |

Posted by BounderTower Somehow it's the first game I thought of when I saw the title of this thread. Not that the game is that great, but it's far from being the worst NES game like that crazy dude said. Despite its flaws, I feel it's one of the "memorable" NES games, maybe because of its pseudo 3d perspective effect. There's a speed-run video somewhere on Youtube, the game certainly doesn't look that bad from start to finish. url: Deadly Towers Speed-Run on YouTube ------- A not-so-famous arcade game I found not so long ago is Tube Panic. For some reason it took a while until it was emulated with Mame. It's a simple shooter released in 1984 by Nichibutsu. It features Mode-7-like scaling with some horizontal horizon scrolling in the first level, but every second level has this very interesting round tunnel scaling effect. Your ship stays at the bottom of the screen, while the whole tunnel and enemies rotates when you move the controls left and right. The game alternates between those two views as you progress. I found the game to be surprisingly addicting, relatively easy, but nice old-school explosion visuals and sound effects make it satisfying to blast everything in your path. Enemy design is also interesting, like those toy-like robots that cling on the tube's walls. There's some variation in colors and patterns used for the scaling horizon and tube as you go further in the game, but I felt like patterns used could have been more interesting. Maybe I could try to hack them? |
