What should I do? Could I just buy a PAL SNES, and would I be able to hook that up to a regular TV?
Mod a regular SNES? Vague question, but yeah. |

"Hook it up to a regular TV?" - I would assume it would work on any TV (I don't think TV's are region-specific (like games )).
Also: emulation. ____________________ |

Japanese SFC games can actually be played on a normal SNES, as far as I know. There are two tabs in an SNES near the cartridge load slot that need to be removed (on older SNESes, they're plastic, making it easy to remove them), and once they are, SFC games fit inside and can be played normally. That's how I got PdP to work on my SNES.
As for PAL games, I don't know, sorry. |

Depends on the TV. Some newer TVs will be able to automatically detect when they're getting a PAL signal and change refresh rates accordingly, but for older TVs you're SOL. And yeah, PAL games won't work on a normal NTSC SNES; unlike the JP<->US physical region lockout, PAL games actually have a software/hardware lockout. I actually have a Terranigma cart, and it won't boot at all in my SNES. The best I've been able to do is with a game genie, and even then I get a "This game is not meant to be played on your NTSC SNES" message. |

Heh, one of my older TV's can take the refresh rate (60hz) but not NTSC itself. It results into a black and white image. xD
How new is the TV? Most modern TV's supports both, probably because it's cheaper to build TV's that supports several formats than TV's that only supports one format nowadays I guess. Some region games have lockouts, such as terranigma above but not all of them. The detection is apparently coded into the game itself. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Those converters is also a reason why some latelife SNES games have inbuilt region protections. If you forceload games in SNES emulators as PAL, some older games runs fine while 'newer' games have a tendency to complain. I seen SMRPG and Earthbound complaining when run as PAL in a emulator, while a old game such as SMW runs fine. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org
