HP Pavilion dv8000 laptop, my grad present I've had it for almost a year now, but it hasn't aged real well. I've been having some real trouble with the keys--maybe it's from bashing the crap out of them with ZSNES? I've tried cleaning the keyboard and reattaching the keys but they still sometimes go "dead" (they feel normal but the strokes don't register ) And the screen's got a big arc of gray-stained pixels that seems to have gotten bigger since I bought it. NOT DEAD PIXELS--these just a have a semitransparent, discolored look. Doesn't bother me too much, it's hard to see cept on a light background.

On the bright side, here's the specs:

17'' wiiiiiidescreen (Xkeeper FTW, ||bass blows, BADLY) display
512 MB RAM, 80 GB hard drive
AMD Turion 64 processor
ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M graphics card
Altec Lansing audio
Windows XP (thank god I didn't switch to Vista)
Lunar Magic and Hyrule Magic

Sony.

Personally, the name on the box is the least important manner in purchasing a computer. My next one will probably be custom.
It's usually kind of important (when buying a pre-built, non custom one).

I say this because, for example, Dells are known to have extreme problems (hi, exploding laptops), eMachines are just known to suck, and so on.

Is this true for desktops, too, or just laptops? Because I've had this Dell Dimension E510 for almost a year and a half now, and the only real problems I've had, I can trace back to Windows. Well, I've learned from a tech guy at Staples that Dells are picky about ram, but that's just annoying, not a deal-breaker.

Anyway, my specs:

3.0 GHZ Intel Hyperthreading Processor
Standard Dell Monitor (15, 16 inches? I don't know)
3 GB ram (upgraded from 1 GB for my birthday )
80 GB HD (Split between Windows and Linux. Really need another one)
ATI Radeon X1600 video card (upgraded from Radeon X300 or something back in July)
Onboard sound
DVD-ROM/CD-R drive (built-in)
Another CD-R, taken from my dad's computer when he didn't need it
Windows XP Media Center Edition

That's about it. Everything else really isn't worth mentioning or digging up specs for. I'd like to say my next PC will be custom-built, but I don't have that kind of money.

I've got a HP Pavilion ze5500, and it has the same problem with the keys. Every once in a while, a random key or two will stop working unless I pound on it. There's nothing underneath it, it feels like a normal stroke, but it doesn't register unless I stop my flow of typing to really push on it. But usually after a few days the problem goes away. I dunno what the problem is, maybe it just needs a really thorough cleaning?

Oh please Koitenshin, I know Intel sucks, AMD is better, I WAS planning on installing another processor you know.

Koitenshin you need to stop being an ass, Because your immaturity is driving me insane, I probably know more about hardware and how computers work than you.

Besides, You were probably a noob once so i wouldn't be talking.

Actually, last I checked, Intel was beating AMD in the benchmarks...though it was a month or two ago since I checked.

He's dissing you because you have a Celeron. My 1.0GHz Pentium III can likely beat out a Celeron whatever.

I just took a quick glance at it, because i don't really care for the processor, i only care if it's too slow

Well at least only the long post gets stretched now, rather than the whole page like it did in AB 1.x.

By the way, if you can help it, avoid Compaq like the plauge. My father/stepmother has one, and it has to be the single crappiest computer I've ever used.

And that's saying a lot.

I use a Shitpaq, gtfo.

Besides, HP/Compaq merged. When they did that, their systems started getting a fuckload better. If you want bad, get a Dell. May not be too terrible for you now but you should know that the definition of Dell is PROPRIETARY. Godforbid you need a part for a Dell laptop.
