My hubby built this computer. his first. Once we get things taken care of and we're okay, he's going to build another computer so we'll have two good ones.

Dell, regrettibly. It's just not that great of a computer, but I guess it gets the job done =\ getting a MUCH better one in college.

Oh and I have a Dell laptop too but THAT thing....if its not one problem its another =\

Dell. There really isn't anything wrong with it...

Or I just haven't experienced the ultimate computers.

Dell.

It functions. I can wait the couple seconds for Firefox to open.

I guess if I was still into PC gaming I'd want a high-end machine, but that's not really the case. The only PC games I want to play anymore are old enough that most machines can run them easily now.

I might be investing in a Dell laptop sometime soon. Not as a piece of kickass hardware, but instead as a practical tool to use for schoolwork.

EDIT: Fuck, this whole post is lame. I think I'm getting older.

eMachines... about a year and a half old now, still kickin. But really, does the name on the box really matter as much as the parts inside the box?

Dell. Desktop.

It works. There's nothing wrong with Dell stuff (except that it comes with Norton A-V which sucks).

There have been problems yes, but associated with Microsoft (XP) and poorly-programmed anti-virus programs.

I have an eMachines desktop (dirt cheap, and it shows) and an MPC laptop. Has anyone else heard of a computer company called MPC? The only ones I've seen are at my university, where every computer is MPC except for some old Compaqs.

Gateway originally, but I've replaced pretty much everything but the motherboard so I guess it's custom.

Just be careful. My Dell laptop has been nothing but problem after problem. I had to replace the motherboard initialy, then the power supply, now it looks like the harddrive might be giving out too (I swear, I've had to reinstall windows at least 5 times and every time, something ends up breaking beyond all repair after I've used the computer once)

Laptop = Sony, Shit Win98 comp = HP, and home server = Compaq. The HP has lasted quite a while, surprisingly, and the Compaq can be a whore sometimes. The laptop is real nice, though.

I have had several computers, a Compaq Deskpro 66M (my mom's first computer, circa 1993), a Gateway (bought back in 1997), and a Dell OptiPlex (given to me mid-2005).

Dell Desktop. I regret this considerably, and had I the choice, I would've built a custom one. See my rant on Dell in the ONO thread for more details. Suffice it to say, Dell is evil.

Since I know a lot of you are big on computer specs here; would anyone be so kind and generous as to tell me what brand I should be buying if I want to run a Windows OS (ie No Macs) and still want my laptop to be somewhat affordable?

My Dell desktop has given me some troubles over the years but nothing MAJOR. The main fan died on me once but that's about it.

I've been running my HP laptop for almost a year (10 months now), cost me $900 and:

- 512 MB RAM
- 1440x900 wiiiiidescreen
- actual numpad
- works great, ~2-3 hour battery life
- built in wireless
- 1800MHz AMD Turion64
- ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M

(HP dv8000 if you're interested)

Not a bad deal, never had a problem with it. Just be ready to clean off all the preloaded garbage and you'll be fine.
