When I use my DS Lite the L and R buttons Barely or even don't work, I have to pull the R button sideways to make it work, and the L button responds slowly although i play games which don't focus on these buttons, It will probably get annoying when I play MKDS or MPH on it, any ideas how to fix this?

Yup... This happens to a lot of people over time. It normally is just dirt and other crud clogging up the buttons on the inside. There are plenty of guides online which show you how to fix this. If it's not dust in the buttons then, you probably need to get a new DS.

Heh, I fixed NES controllers with similar symptom.

You hard to press really hard for them to react. When we took them apart, there were lots of grim and stuff that made contact harder. Cleaning them made wonders. We should try doing the same for our SNES controllers now I think on it...

I gotta go get a tiny screwdriver then... why does nintendo make this happen to things they make? on a lighter note, I only got a gamecupe controller to stop working by utterly destroying it (the cord ripped) (I didn't do it on purpouse either...)
Edit: Tiny screwdriver is phillips, nintendo's screws have 3 sides to it

EDIT2: I'll just lift up the buttons

EDIT3: That fixed it, Thanks!

Nintendo doesn't "make it happen", it just does. That's just how electronics are. Over time and with use, it just...happens.

I've opened it up before, and the buttons themselves are fine. The problem is that the contact switches internally have worn out. No external grime could ever have any effect on these buttons. I have no clue how to fix them.

...aside from sending it Nintendo for a new system.

Well it sounds like you fixed it but where did you get the tri-prong driver?

There was ALOT of dirt under the buttons... I didn't find the right screwdriver, but a very small flat screwdriver would've done the trick

a lot*

Yeah. Always try to clean something before resorting to a new one. It's that magic that lets you squeeze another two years out of a PS2.

He somehow got the screws to unscrew with a very tiny flat head ... I should try that sometime, or just pay $18 for a new case + three winged screw driver

I tried using a toothpick (don't laugh) to try to get some of that gunk out of there, fortunately it worked
