This is might seem absurd, but I was taking the practice tests for the GRE(yyyyyyyyy) and L(ong)CAT, and I though they were rather fun, especially the analogs, logic sections, and essays. The analysis are always fun, but the other stuff I've not seen in standardized tests for a long time(school-specific admissions exams).

I've heard that the GRE is planning on dumbing down its test, but I can't see why. People need to know all of the vocabulary it uses--they're not really that bad, anyways. Did I mention the GRE is a CAT?

The only part I don't like is that both cost ~$130 a piece.

Anyone have any other madness to express? Anyone else taking tests for fun soon?

Gah, I hate standardized tests. The SAT which I took in 2005 was murder, to do well on it you had to know all kinda of obscure words and their subtle shades in meaning, words that nobody ever uses, ever. The worst part was that you could only use the bathroom once for like 5 minutes during the 4+ hour test, and everyone had to crowd into the tiny high school bathrooms. I'm one of those people who has to go to the bathroom like 20 times a day.

Standardized tests are so silly. One size does not fit all when you apply it to the damn mind.

They've always seemed to easy for me. It's just simple stuff, and it's more of a grind than any form of lesson or test of knowledge.

But they produce concrete, exact numbers relating to relative levels of knowledge (not necessarily skill or intelligence; memorization is not wisdom)

Oh well.

I mathematics GRE is a fricken nightmare. Any feeling you have about being good at math will be crushed unless you're a super genius. I took it twice, the second time doing only a little better in spite of studying my ass off for it. It's about 66 questions in an hour and a half. And they aren't simple artithmetic questions, they're proof type questions, like if such and such is continuous and bounded, then blah blah blah is also continuous? (multiple choice).

Even though it's of no use to me, I kind of want to take it again just b/c I savor the challenge. It's $130 though >:.

I took the College Board on February, both sections, $70 for the both of them. And for the most part, yes. It is a massive grind. Section 1 was 8AM-12PM and Section 2 was 12:30PM-5PM. Longest eight hours ever. Even more so, considering I finished every part in roughly 20~30 minutes. The Math and English sections were ridiculously easy, but the Spanish sections were riddled with ambiguous literature questions and interpretation. I seriously fail at interpretation, so I chose whatever sounded most profound.

I got a 3692

I've got to take the MCAT (hopefully) next year. The whole application process for medical school will cost me a couple G's.

You've already finished undergraduate? I haven't taken a look at the GRE Math Subject test much, but I suspect that's about half a year to a year away.

But the vocabulary part on the GRE was easy enough, even though it makes the SAT look like childs play--which it is, incidentally. The math part on the GRE is just laughable though. Much easier than the Calculus AB test, I would say.

But the LSAT is fun as can be. I'd say just about any debater or even English major should be able to ace it. And I'm neither of the two, and an idiot, to boot, and I did pretty well on the released exams. Sadly, it costs a ton.

I haven't touched the SAT's yet but I did take the PSAT's. I think I did good on most things but I remember bombing Math. (I've never been very good in math. )
