Posted by theclaw Never in my own life have I seen a blue screen on WinXP. And apparently people who get frequent blue screens aren't aware that it's generally a faulty motherboard (well that's what happened to me when I had Win98) |

Posted by BMF54123 Well at least with XP the user-friendly bloat is optional... Vista they practically shove it down your throat with no way to disable it. As for 2000, its a great OS, but I'm obsessive compulsive and I don't like the fact that the tray icons can't be displayed in 32-bit color. You can patch it to use 256-color icons, but it still doesn't look right. Posted by theclaw Sounds like you had XP, never used Windows Updates and went to a bunch of cheat code sites that have adware installers on every page. You probelly clicked Yes on every ActiveX installer too...lol. I've only had Windows XP blue screen or act slow because of hardware problems. |

On topic:
You should really consider going the DIY route. It just takes a little research, and the internet is packed with people who will help you pick out compatible parts. Extremely low end pcs are normally cheaper from a manufacture, but mid-range to high end can be much cheaper to build yourself, and you can better customize your parts. I put my last computer together 5 months ago for about $100 more than that, and its much better. Twice the ram, faster ram, much, much, better video card, dvd burner, and a faster processor. No LCD though, but all the parts have dropped in price considerably since January, so for the same price you could probably add an LCD and still have some money left over.
