I'm thinking of buying a new computer (since I haven't bought one in about 3 years) with the following specs. You guys think it's a good deal?

I haven't bought it yet, just thinking about it. ____________________ NFF -- Drama Free Since March 11, 2004. |

Well, you could just wipe the Vista and put either 2000, XP, 98SE, or even Linux on it |

Pretty good except for the words "Intel," "Microsoft," "Windows" and "Gateway." But other than that, looks just great! |

Looks good, especially for that price (of course, as GuyPerfect said, "Windows" and "Microsoft" are not things you want associated with your computer ). ____________________ |

First of all, all the rejects that posted after Katelyn and before me, shut up.
VgFreak877 what do you plan on using the computer for? (That way we can get a better idea to see if it will do all the things you need it to.) ____________________ What FF7: Advent Children Character Are You? |

Well, I just wanted something more than my dinosaur computer that I have now, mostly for my studies. I eventually plan on doing some serious video editing with it. Oh yeah, when I have time to do things other than that, about 10% of the time, I will be playing games. I'm just tired of not having enough harddrive space (only 30GB) and running out of memory (128 MB), I think I'm about due. ____________________ NFF -- Drama Free Since March 11, 2004. |

128 MB of Memory, Ouch...
And I thought 1 Gig was bad. ____________________ |

It should fit your needs. Later on you might have to install more RAM for video editing. And depending on what kind of games you'll want to play there may be problems with the system. ____________________ What FF7: Advent Children Character Are You? |

Posted by AT_460Not enough RAM or HD space. And then, it comes with Vista (I'm actually serious here, it's best to wait to get Vista until at least 2008, after all the bugs have been worked out). ____________________ |

Those of you who say it has bugs, are you even using the FULL version of Vista? Or are you simply basing it on useless opinions of a Release Candidate? ____________________ What FF7: Advent Children Character Are You? |

Posted by AT_460 eMachines is shit; the one-year warranty won't be enough, I've had this eMachines PC for about 3 years now and I've had the HDD fail twice and the mobo die once. Also, if you don't like vista, just install a different OS... nobody is forcing you to use it ____________________ |

Don't believe all that crap and misconceptions flung about online. The correct statement is: 2000>95>>Vista>>>ME>>>>98>>>>>XP.
XP is not just slow, it is a blue-screen ridden virus so awful it doesn't even belong in the same multiverse as the word "garbage". I urge everyone to use 2000, Vista, OS X, or their favorite *nix. ____________________ |

I'd push 98 up that line and ME way down it.
I would agree with 2000 though. That's what I'm using (Pro SP4). |

Xk might as well give up on Vista period. Not for lack of hardware mind you but lack of cooling. ____________________ What FF7: Advent Children Character Are You? |

Windows 2000 is the best Microsoft OS ever, hands-down. It's essentially Windows XP without all the user-friendly bloat tacked on. ____________________ [citation needed] |
