I'm thinking of buying a new computer (since I haven't bought one in about 3 years) with the following specs. You guys think it's a good deal?

Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 (2.00GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB cache, non-HT)
Genuine Windows Vista・Home Premium (32-bit)
1024MB 667MHz Dual-Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2-512MB modules)
250GB 7200rpm Serial ATA II/300 hard drive w/ 8MB cache
48x/32x/48x CD-RW/DVD combo drive
Gateway 19" Widescreen High Definition LCD Display
Microsoft Works 8.5
Gateway 5-Bay uATX Case
Intel G965 Chipset
Black Polish
(2) PCI expansion slots, (1) PCI-E x1 expansion slot. (1) PCI-E x16 expansion slot
(6) USB 2.0 (2 front, 4 rear), (2) IEEE 1394 firewire (1 front, 1 rear), audio ports and (2) PS/2
15-in-1 Memory Card Reader
Gateway Elite Keyboard (for Windows Vista)
56K PCI data/fax modem
Systemboard with Intel G965 Chipset & 10/100 network
Soft-touch USB Optical Wheel Mouse
Integrated Intel 10/100 Twisted Pair Ethernet
Windows Vista Home Premium Backup Media (32-bit)
Gateway 2.0 Speakers
nVidia GeForce 7500LE 256MB (512MB shared) G72 NTSC
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3000 with Maximum 384MB Shared Memory (Dynamic Video Memory Technology)

TOTAL PRICE: $848.00 + $99.00 for shipping = $947.00

I prefer having Windows XP on my system but none of the new systems have it. I haven't bought it yet, just thinking about it.

Well, you could just wipe the Vista and put either 2000, XP, 98SE, or even Linux on it

Pretty good except for the words "Intel," "Microsoft," "Windows" and "Gateway." But other than that, looks just great!

Looks good, especially for that price (of course, as GuyPerfect said, "Windows" and "Microsoft" are not things you want associated with your computer ).

First of all, all the rejects that posted after Katelyn and before me, shut up.

VgFreak877 what do you plan on using the computer for?
(That way we can get a better idea to see if it will do all the things you need it to.)

Well, I just wanted something more than my dinosaur computer that I have now, mostly for my studies. I eventually plan on doing some serious video editing with it. Oh yeah, when I have time to do things other than that, about 10% of the time, I will be playing games. I'm just tired of not having enough harddrive space (only 30GB) and running out of memory (128 MB), I think I'm about due.

128 MB of Memory, Ouch...

And I thought 1 Gig was bad.

It should fit your needs. Later on you might have to install more RAM for video editing. And depending on what kind of games you'll want to play there may be problems with the system.

Not enough RAM or HD space. And then, it comes with Vista (I'm actually serious here, it's best to wait to get Vista until at least 2008, after all the bugs have been worked out).

Those of you who say it has bugs, are you even using the FULL version of Vista? Or are you simply basing it on useless opinions of a Release Candidate?

eMachines is shit; the one-year warranty won't be enough, I've had this eMachines PC for about 3 years now and I've had the HDD fail twice and the mobo die once.

Also, if you don't like vista, just install a different OS... nobody is forcing you to use it

Don't believe all that crap and misconceptions flung about online. The correct statement is: 2000>95>>Vista>>>ME>>>>98>>>>>XP.

XP is not just slow, it is a blue-screen ridden virus so awful it doesn't even belong in the same multiverse as the word "garbage".

I urge everyone to use 2000, Vista, OS X, or their favorite *nix.

I'd push 98 up that line and ME way down it.

I would agree with 2000 though. That's what I'm using (Pro SP4).

What in the fuck?

2000 > XP >> 98 > 95 >>> Vista (greh) >>> Any version of ME, ever.

Xk might as well give up on Vista period. Not for lack of hardware mind you but lack of cooling.

Windows 2000 is the best Microsoft OS ever, hands-down. It's essentially Windows XP without all the user-friendly bloat tacked on.
