Here we go, my first post here!

The storyline is stated in SS2.
I'm using minimal ExGFX and custom blocks, so don't expect anything fancy. The one problem that I'm having, however, is with my status bar. As you can see, if you have less than 10 bonus stars, the tens digit of your lives won't show up! Anyone know a way around this?

JPEG screenshots are generally not a good idea... go with PNG.

As for the shots themselves, they look pretty good overall for a hack without changed GFX... the Orange Hills don't look great, though. I can't download emulators onto this computer right now, but when I'm able to I'll try it out.

Thank you for posting, since there's no "EDIT" right now.

I kinda figured that out about the jpeg stuffs. Next time, i'll fix Zsnes so that it makes PNG's. Photobucket kills bmps for some reason.

and the orange hills are supposed to be a sunset, any ideas on a different pallete?

(also I will be accepting offers for beta testing once it reaches demo 3.)

Those Island are way too squared.
Try to give them more shape. Also, add some islands to the ocean too. Just because it isn't accessible doesn't mean it shouldn't exist.

Beta tester, yeah that'll work. I'm always up for glitch hunting.
But OW editor won't work, ever since I'm a Mac user and can't use LM at all.

Well, so far I've detected only one flaw.
Level 2, at the very end. Enter the last pipe from the right.
Apparently if you do so, horrible things happen. Background gets messed up :X

World 2 looks way too long and 6 looks far too short. I may just be mis-interpreting where they are though. The maps themselves look nice to me though!

I've only played a little so far, but it seems like neither of the exits to Castle Ruins lead anywhere. Is this on purpose? Why even bother putting exits there?

Liking it dosen't help that they look rather... stale. You can get away with it if one island is squarish, but when every is...

I'm a harsh critic, so to put it simply.. "bleh."
The overworld is far too box shaped, making it very bland and uninteresting.. The title screen is a bit.. eh, the colors going on there don't really appeal to me, and from what I gather (I'd need to see it in motion though) you've tried to make it look fancy by having Mario pull off some tough jumps and what not? (He looks to be bouncing off several things in midair with no ground below..) I tend to find that sort of thing kind of iffy, since it can give the wrong first impression on the difficulty and style of your hack. (Besides, simple is sometimes the best form of art..)

The picture with the pipes and the initial message is.. uh, ugly really. Sorry, it just never looks good to have a lot of pipes lined up like that.. It's line having pinstripes of green running across the screen, not very nice.. Then for the level design in general.. I don't know, it doesn't look any better from the rest to me, though I admit I haven't played it myself to judge it wholly.. Still, it just doesn't come out and grab me in any way..

All in all.. I think you need to be more creative, and get more used to using LM before you can make something that really shines. As it stands right now, it just doesn't seem the least bit interesting enough for me to download. (Albeit, you've got to impress me pretty well to get a download out of me, but you can get a lot of kinder words with more effort even without managing that.)

OK, I get your points.

Tell ya what. I'll scrap and replace the OW on a test ROM and let you take a look at it and tell me what you think. Oh, and to Raccoon Sam, that pipe problem is fixed now, that was an old ROM I made that IPS from.

Things to do: New title screen, new OW, replace pallets in W1-3, and remove exits in the castle.

To all: what would YOU like to see in this hack? Keep in mind, no custom sprites, and MINIMAL custom blocks/ExGFX.

And to the dudes who made this board: GIVE ME AN EDIT BUTTON!

Sounds good to me. Glad you're good with criticism too, since I don't like scaring people off - rather, I like to help improve people in these things by pointing out how I think things could be done differently or just plain better in general.
