Now that D/P are out and apparently extremely popular, we need a tournament! Sign up here, the tourney will start sometime in June or at the latest July.
Rules:

  • No ubers (see Alastor's list)

  • We will use Battle Autolevel (All pokemon set to level 100) - maybe

  • First tournament will be single battle, second one will be double battle (or something like that

Alright... count me in. But we may need to hammer out some new rules, or actually define a set of who "legendaries or ubers" are. Might I suggest a rudimentary list?

Any of the following one-off Pokémon are disallowed from the tournament. In short, DO NOT USE:

Articuno
Zapdos
Moltres
Mewtwo
Mew
Raikou
Entei
Suicune
Lugia
Ho-oh
Celebi
Regirock
Regice
Registeel
Latias
Latios
Kyogre
Groudon
Rayquaza
Deoxys
Jirachi
Uxie
Azelf
Mespirit
Dialga
Palkia
Heatran
Regigigas
Giratina
Cresselia
Manaphy
Darkrai
Shaymin
Arceus

These are the basic list of legendary Pokémon available throughout. All others are, for the most part, acceptable, as they are not too overly powerful.

I highly suggest those entering this tournament give serious thought to the Pokémon they will use and the movesets, as it can seriously influence the outcome of the battle.

A couple other thoughts, a provision that once the tourney starts, no changes may be made to the team you are using, and that you may not duplicate a Pokémon or hold item on the team. I know that these moves are almost impossible to enforce, and I'm not saying they should be set in stone or anything, just trying to uphold some integrity for the tourney itself.

Ha ha. No. Here's a... Vastly better list:

Mewtwo
Mew
Lugia
Ho-oh
Latias
Latios
Kyogre
Groudon
Rayquaza
Deoxys
Dialga
Palkia
Giratina
Darkrai
Arceus

This list is better in that no one cares about your average, run-of-the-mill legend. They don't break the game in any way, shape or form, and if you ban them all, you might as well ban every other pokemon that's in any way above average in strength, 'cause many of 'em are better than the vast majority of legends.

Also, I wouldn't hold this tournament until around a month or so. The game's been out for a week, you need to give the people who want to breed and EV train time to do their stuff. I only have one member of my final team ready right now, and it's not fully leveled, but that doesn't mean I don't want to compete.

Disallowing any Pokémon is a bad idea. If you cannot come up with a solution to defeat them, then you do not have the right to call yourself a Pokémon trainer. You had to defeat them once already to get them so you know they have weaknesses. If you do not have the right Pokémon then that is the trainer's fault and not the Pokémon's.

Wow suicide. Though I don't have a DS I will say this:

GOGETA VERSUS HERCULE READY SET GO

There's a reason in a STANDARDIZED match that ubers are disallowed. Skill has nothing to do with it. Sides, there are plenty of other pokes and it makes the battle that much more interesting coming up with strategies to win instead of using PSYCHIC or HYPER BEAM relentlessly.

That's why they have "Disable" and other such attacks. Paralyze helps greatly as does Confusion. Also using the Pokémon that has "Wonder Guard" is a great way to win.

To be fair, in uber battles, Psychic is one of the worst moves that people use, because almost everything is resistant to it. Hyper Beam just sucks all around.

Oh my god, Disable is such a shitty move, it'll never help... And ubers are just too fast for confusion effects to get off. T-Wave's better, but eh. Shedinja is lolfail against the very common ghost and darkness attacks, so it is a failure. So no, you're wrong.

NightKev is organizing this whole thing, it's up to him to decide what to do.

I have to agree with Hiryuu about all of it. If you want to have more fun strategizing and planning, you'd do better without all of those ubers in the mix. What strategy is it to have a team of nothing but Pokémon with the highest stats, owning everything by default because nothing can touch it.

Seriously, lets make this a fun tournament, not one filled with lolubers.

Okay, but I would really like to make it clear that not all legendaries are ubers. Heracross is better than perhaps two legends other than those commonly called ubers - would you say it should be banned as well?

Are you kidding me? A fairly common Staraptor could OHKO any Heracross.

We're mainly looking at non-breedables for the most part. Anything else is completely fair.

I'm not going by what OHKOs what, I'm going by what is generally effective against many things. If you want to make that argument, Machamp easily OHKOs Blissey... But Blissey is still definitely in the top 5 pokemon in the game, including ubers.

I'd go into IRC to tell him I've won my fair share of tournaments for prize money, but that sounds boring.

One last thought for NightKev: Single or Double battles? If it's single, add Wobuffet to the list of banned, if not, don't.

Articuno
Moltres

Has anyone heard of Rock Slide?

Because I'm quite familiar with it, and so are quite a few pokemon with high Attack. Articuno, sadly (as I quite like it), is nothing special.

Take Alastor's advice here, seriously. He knows what he's talking about.

Usual I only lvl up the starter. Then start lvl up other pokemons after I got it to lvl 100. And honestly my fire starter have won with 1-2 moves against a lvl 100 Kyogre so why not ban the starters then?

Oh and I still got a lvl 100 mew on my Red :]
To bad I can't get it in pearl.

Any way, I want to sign up for this but.... I need to beat pearl and train a good team first. Also I got school, And for the sake of saying it, The game have not released in Europe ( I have flash card )

Also for the sake of... A friend did help me so I traded my starter for a Torchic. Like that one more

I hope I see another tournament in the summer too.

I'm not importing. I have European copies of the other pokémon games and I heard about incompatibilities when it comes between transferring pokéymans from the GBA version.

I don't see Wobbuffet on the banned lists, did D/P make him unbroken? If so, in what way?
