Remember that sleeping at any time not between 9 PM and 11 AM is NOT NORMAL AND BAD AND WRONG and is worthy of punishment.

Hah. Summer's coming up, she's so wrong.

It's good strategy to sleep during the daytime heating and awaken to thrive during the cooler night.

Meh. I get up early, sleep late. I take naps during my classes during school.

Not like I'm doing anything in them to begin with, but eh.

And I usually end up sleeping until 11 a.m. uninturrupted. Any later and I get pissed. And my bed is always after 9:00 p.m...

I'm so changing my sleep pattern to where I'm up all night. I really prefer night time because it's cooler and there aren't any noisy children running around my neighborhood at 2 in the morning.

Sleeping before 9:00 PM or after 11:00 AM ... mostly the "after" part, I'm guessing, or sleeping during the day

I usually get up in the middle of the afternoon myself (when there's nothing in the morning), past 11:00 AM even in your timezone (2:00 PM here) ... like I got up around 4:00 PM yesterday after a long sleep

I fell asleep a while ago (around 4?) and got yelled at because I was asleep during the day, even though I had gotten only one hour of rest before that...

At least time she didn't insult me for it

I never understood shit like this.

Maybe because my mother used to work 11PM-7AM, so she never said anything retarded on this subject.

My sleep pattern is usually 4AM to about 12:30PM. Does that make me a deviant?

Sir, I must assert that your most worthy mother might be correct in her firmness. In all likeliness, I assume you to be one constrained by the norms of society--unless you're one who lives at night and sleeps at day, or one isolated from the majority, of course--and that your internal, biological clock cannot be so easily adjusted.

There are only two things that get me up after a mere 8 hours of sleep, or get me to bed before ~2AM: Having to go to work in the morning, and having to go to school in the morning. These have an approximately 99.9% success rate, whereas everything else has an approximately 1% success rate. I don't quite know why, and I certainly don't enjoy sleeping for 12 hours and/or waking up at 2PM, but it happens.

And, unfortunately (since I dislike her bitching and moaning), my biological clock says "sleep is in morning, wake is in late afternoon" (I tend to default to this after a whlie)

I'm glad I don't have your mom. I have a natural 28 hour sleep rhythm, and if she was convinced that was such, there'd be constant struggles.

At college, my sleeping pattern usually is somewhere along the lines of 2am-9am.

At home, it varies, but I'm always awake by 1:30 pm.

Apparently, what constitutes a "normal" sleep schedule is one of the last things parents and their children disagree on before said children move out, because I had the same issues with my mom. I can't count the number of times I found myself frantically shutting down the computer and jumping into bed because I heard footsteps coming down the stairs in the morning.

(and heaven forbid they should catch me going to the bathroom in the middle of the night, because that automatically meant I was still awake...)

As for myself, I was left to my own devices at a young age, as long as I was quiet. Experience tells that going to bed at 4AM isn't such a great idea in practice though, especially when it's necessary to wake a few hours later.
