As I'm sure you in the IRC channel can tell, Espernet is becoming a very horrible place to stay, with nothing but bugs, errors, and other stupid shit happening 99% of the time.

So I was curious about alternatives. Preferrably not "massive" networks and without netsplits every damn day.

Anyway, list of IRC servers that failed to pass my consideration:
- Freenode (/global /global /global /global /global)
- DeltaAnime (This is the netsplit that never ends, it just goes on and on my friends etc)

Yep.

99% of the time? My experience has not been as such. Just make sure you don't pick a random server. Pick one you like and stick with it for a while. legend.esper.net ftw.

irc.fur.net which is actually ironically one of the more stable networks with somewhat sane ircOPs I seen so far...

irc.oftc.net? It's stable as far I know. I'm there on the #openTTD channel most of the time.

You do realize that "Epsernet" consists of "all of *.esper.net servers", uh, right?

Please say yes?

Exactly, so pick one that is stable for you. For example, I think anger.esper.net sucks balls. When the net splits, you can usually tell which one is the crappy server.

edit: And yeah, not that Espernet is that great, but the grass is always greener on the other side.

Ailure: since when did IRCops matter? I've never even ran into one unless it was a small network, like RootXero. IRCops would actually stay in our channels and lurk... it was annoying as fuck.

I like having IRCops who are around, since I tend to occasionally run into a problem with a rogue dumbass that needs a G-line badly or to ask when the network maintainence will be over.

Besides, having them around to ask network-related questions is nice.

I still think DJBoucheNET would be an option... (irc.djbouche.net)
It's run by a formerly rather active Acmlm's Board member, can't netsplit because it's a single server and is, from what I can tell, fairly stable.

edit: Imajin - EmuNET... well, we would first and foremost need some more or less stable server to serve as a hub that doesn't block port 6667... I used to run a leaf of it, but it was rather pointless without the hub since most people attempt to connect throuh 6667 at first. I could ask Emuz, of course, but his node hadn't proven exactly stable in the past..

I don't really mind seeing a new IRC network ala EMUnet back up again.

As long IRCops that actually care are around.

I like irc.anynet.org but the channel owners don't have much control on who to permaop though

it also blocks tor proxies
