Nowadays a whole lot of stuff is being shared on the P2P network, millions of files downloaded each and every day.
Billions of bytes going from computer to computer.
This whole network depends on one thing: people sharing their data.
If no one would share then how would this network be able to exist at all?
There will always be leechers who never seed a byte and there will always be seeders who seed all day long.
So where do you stand in this ethical question? Do you share, or do you not share? Also give arguments as to why you (don't) share.
As for me? I share. Why? Read the above text again.

I usually share over night or until I got the file I was looking for. Then I just close the program. Eh, that was for torrents, though.

With programs like DC++/oDC I share quite a fair amount of stuff.

I'm a leech. It's not my responsibility to seed for hours on end and wind up paying for it on my Internet bill.

But I always try, when I have the money to spend, to buy the music.

I share what I download, usually. Typically a 1.1 ratio for a while after the torrent is finished. But yeah, if a particular album is really good, I buy it... particularly with game soundtracks. However, if it has three good tracks, I'm sure as hell not paying 15 bucks for it.

Yes. I have some large files that I let people download such as movies (the full high resolution ones) and fullversions of Macormedia Flash and Cinema4d. I also have some games like House of the Dead 2 online as well. I never put mp3s in p2p.

I only seed when I have to so I can start downloading something else without waiting. Other than that I just leech.

I can't see a reason not to share when its so easy as leaving the client open...

I could understand not sharing if you actually had to do something, but whatever

I share, and usually I just forget the client is there, I had something like a 5.4 ratio on some of my torrents before I stopped them. I don't often download stuff, so I wind up seeding stuff I do download for a very long time.

I share any time my computer is on and I'm not desperately needing the bandwidth for something else. So, pretty much 24/7. I'm currently seeding about 20 torrents and would have DC++ running as well if it didn't crash my computer these days for some reason.

Ever since the guys I shared with busted me, I gave up. Now I only leech, in fact, I get whatever I need from direct download. I ussually get my roms, music, and programs/games vis DDL. For other music, I use Limewire. The last time I used a torrent was for Linux...

I am a leech. I don't share one bit. If I see an upload running, I immediately kill it. Why? It's called dial-up.

It's bad enough for me having to lag down my computer for a smal file. But someone lagging me down even more as well is too much.

I'm not greedy. I would share if I had a higher speed internet connection. Which I really should consider... even videos are only an occasional thing.

On my ISP, sharing nor leeching is an option.

When a good XDCC source or even a direct download is available, I often use that... when I use torrents, though, I usually leave them on until I need the upstream, mostly achieving around 50% up/down ratio.
Then, I host stuff on my server for people I want to refer to it rather than linking them to the original sources, so I guess that kind of counts as well.

I always try to get a ratio of atleast 1.0.
I can understand people with dial-up not sharing, but people with high speed connections should at least share the files they've downloaded in my opinion.
And if you have a download/upload limit at least try to share a bit. I only have 10GB upload and download bandwidth a month and I still share everything.

I don't torrent at all. There are too many "unwritten" rules to abide by, and I'm almost certain I do it wrong every time.

I have the torrent sharing ports closed so I can't share torrents at all (but still download). On all other occasions, I close the application as soon as my desired file is complete.

I'll usually share if there's still demand for it, but if there's nobody downloading, I'll just stop.

Although sometimes I'll start again if there is demand, but that's only for Nesvideos
