Hello all.

I would like to be approved for the SMW/Pokémon Hacking boards (mostly the Mario one). I may be a newcomer at this board, but don't think, 'just another noob' because of that. I have lots of experience at other forums, such as Nintendo NSider forums, Quest For Freedom forums and Samus.co.uk forums. I've been at the NSider forums for almost a year now and the people I know there recognize me as an intelligent member of the community. Though, I'm not just a serious person 24/7 I joke around with my friends there too.

I'm interested in hacking because it allows me to make video games my way. I play a game sometimes and think, "Wouldn't it have been cool if..." and then I think about how I would have done something. By hacking, I can fulfill those ideas and create something that, at the very least, I'll enjoy playing. I have one SMW hack in progress and a (cancelled) Super Metroid hack too.

I'd like to be able to learn more about how to hack SMW and eventually create a totally unique hack of my own. Right now, my hack is just a basic level re-vamp.

Please consider approving me to the boards!

Thanks,

FirePhoenix0

Ok, I'll change it. Sorry, I usually use it everywhere else with no problem to others.

Man, I saw this and my heart leapt. I've have a metroid game that I drew the entire map for and it would require Zero Mission elements to fit what I created. I.e: the Morph Ball Launchers, Zero Suit Sequence. I hope you are successful with this and I'll be one of the first to try and create my game. Hopefully though, it will be easier than SMILE to use.

Hello all.

This is my first hack of SMW. I decided that since I'm not crazy experienced with hacking I'm not going to create entirely new levels yet. Instead, this hack just adds things to the levels already in place such as more enemies, items, lots more coins and other neat little things that I find amusing.

I also wanted to make a hack that would just be fun to play. I personally don't like worrying about pushing the Savestate key when I play hacks. With this hack, you should be able to play without ever touching that key. The difficulty is not much harder than the original game.

Details:

Complete up to Red Switch Palace and a few other levels after there.
Some new message blocks.
Edited Title Screen and Credits (if you want to play through to them.)
New Top Secret Area.
Some new background colors.

Plans for future:
Editing more Ghost Houses (I think I only changed, and only a little bit, the Donut Ghost House.)
Finishing the rest of the levels.
Creating entirely new levels for Star World and maybe Special World.
Learning how to properly create room transitions.
Remove the surplus of 1-Ups in the game. (Ex: Donut Plains 4 and Vanilla Dome 1.)
Other.

Pictures!

The first pipe entrance.

Going up?

Coins galore!

Convoluted, eh?

Bouncy, bouncy.

POW Staircases.

I'm really happy how this entire level came out. Play it and see!

Overhauled Top Secret Area. Note: the 1-Up checkpoints don't work for some reason.

So that's my hack so far. I would really like to get help from someone with good knowledge on how to do more in Lunar Magic than copy and paste objects/sprites. Also, I'll ask people who play to go all the way to the Blue Switch Palace. I made something there but haven't gotten over to it yet to test it, plus there's something going on there too.

Enjoy!

Maybe. I'll probably just remove them though. However, I did get it to work in Donut Plains 1. There are three points right at the start and then the last one is on a cloud much further ahead and I can still get it everytime.

Hmm, no wonder Lunar Magic was telling me that there was an exit-enabled pipe somewhere. I couldn't find it though and never thought of jumping back into the pipe I just came out of so I just overlooked it. I'll be sure to change it for the next release.

I'm doing this as the readme and the online tut say to do them, but the blocks i want to add will not show up in the Map16 Access. What am i doing wrong?

I open Lunar Magic, Blocktool, and the Calculator like it says to in the tut. Then I find the Map16 code, put it in the Calculator and convert from Hex to Decimal and then enter that number into the Add block's Map16 dialog. Yet, when i save the blocks to my rom, they won't show up.

Basically, I just want to add the frozen blocks to my hack. I'm trying to put them on Map16 tile 167. I throw 167 into the Hex calculator and convert to decimal. I get 359 as the decimal equivalent and enter that. Save to the rom, but nothing happens.

Help please?

Second, the block's graphics don't automatically show up - you have to put those in yourself. If you hover over the tile you inserted them to in the Map16 tile selector and a purple box pops up with a description of the block, you've done everything right. You just need to put the graphics in; use a combination of GFX/ExGFX edits and Map16 tile editing for that.
Oog, I haven't really started doing GFX/ExGFX/Map16 editing. Basically, all my hack is right now is a basic level hack. I haven't thought of changing GFX yet.

Where can i find something that would help me with editing them? SMW Central?

Ok I figured it out and change the graphics. I also tested the game and the frozen block do break. Yay, I'm happy.

I tried making a SM hack but gave up due to too many problems. (i.e. rooms not loading, random glitching, overall difficulty) The Help file is no use either. Is there an actual guide to using it? The only other idea I would have would be asking Drewseph or Kejardon question but wouldn't want to bother them.

You can always try going to Jathys' channel and asking questions there, though. Or if you're comfortable working with hex and maybe some assembly, try to read the documents I have up at http://drewseph.zophar.net/Kejardon/ and infer what SMILE does based on that... most of the information relevant for SMILE is in sm_misc.txt. I have no idea how understandable anything there is to anyone else, though.
I've been to your section there and can't understand a thing about what you've written. Though I have to say that your Super Metroid Insanity pictures and Title.IPS patch have me intrigued.

How do I add them? I've already extracted all the GFX and ExGFX and reinserted them as 4bpps. I also created the ExGraphics folder in my hacks directory and put the files in it. Now, I know I have to add them by using the Super GFX Bypass but how exactly does that work? I looked over the readme and tried myself but all I got was a garbled mess. Wisely, I didn't save it. Any help for me?

Maybe I should mention that I downloaded these ExGFX from SMWCentral. They are the Metroid Fusion Sector 5 ARC ExGFX.

I'd have thought that they would be fine because otherwise they wouldn't be up for distribution. I must be doing something wrong on my end.

I should just make one thread for all of my questions...

How do I use the program in the console? I open Command Prompt and don't know where to go from there. And the readme didn't say how to do it other than assuming that you know how to use Command Prompt and if not, to Google it.

I'm not trying to open up other people's hacks with this, I just want to unlock a version of my own hack that I locked because I thought I was done with that version. It turns out i need something from there and unless I want to spend lots of time re-doing it in my unlocked version, I'd really like to just use RLM and unlock it.

Wooh, that's going to be a lot to type. I'll just move the files to a not so deep location and then do it. Do I need <>'s around the paths?

I just finished playing through the demo and here's what I thought:

1. I like the graphics, though they are from icegoom.
2. The overworld, while interesting, is a little bright on the eyes. Try maybe dulling down some of the color or not making the unrevealed paths blue. The blue clashes with the yellow landscape.
3. I like the usage of the SMB3 pipes. Very interesting in the first level that after exiting the pipe, going back in sends you to the top of the hill, where the key/keyhole are.
4. All, the alternate paths you could take in World 2 were interesting detours. I played through all the levels just for the heck of it and enjoyed them all.
5. I was a bit surprised to see the Red Switch as the first Palace. Good idea.

That's all I got. I'll look forward to the final release or the next demo.

I just tried now and it recognizes the rlm.exe command but when I type the infile path, it says it cannot find/recognize it.

Here's exactly what I'm typing in. C:\rlm.exe C:\Super.smc C:\Super(U).smc

That's what I'm doing, yet no result. I also tried with <> and it said that "< was unexpected at this time."

I'll try again but if nothing works, I dunno. I guess I'll just have to redo the part in my hack.

EDIT: Never mind, I got it to work. I didn't have the infile/outfile matching exactly. Thanks for your help.
