This used to be a thread i never understood due to the large quantities of Nintendo 64 code. There was something satisfying about clicking on it and reading vl-tone's, BGNG's & HyperMackerel's comments and not understanding a single thing about them but enjoying the fact progress was being made none the less.

Nowadays of course I've watched this thread grow to almost a 1000 posts and nearly all of them for the past few days have been a complete waste of people's typing ability. Asking when it'll be released and what it'll do is a waste of time. Granted if you're new then it can be a bit hard to notice the facts within this mammoth thread but many of u (and i won't say who) have been here for a while and still don't have a clue what the first version will be capable of.

I want news or comments on vl-tones editor and not what gameshark codes are avaliable or whether someone has a lame layout (that's what mods are for). Recon i should just keep track of vl-tones posts from now on, wait for him to start a new thread announcing Toad's Tool 64's release and never venture in here again.

Oh and not to be completely off topic I'll just say to vl-tone that it's your editor and your hard work so you should name it Toad's Tool 64 if that's what you want. Either way it's cool.

Started work on a hard piece of asm hacking thats progressing nicely. Might confuse a few people who aren't aware of the limitations or workings of Zelda3's overworld so best to show u a picture first...

Basicly changes the overlay (background 0) to another layer of the overworld where treetops, rooftops etc are displayed. This will basicly allow me to create some pretty cool areas. For example trees can now overlap each other and other objects such as buildings. The best thing shown in the picture though is trees can now be placed in multiple different surfaces such as sand and dirt (shown only roughly in the picture for testing purposes... where not previously aloud. Hoping to get it transfered over to my actual hacked rom soon so i can start work on it again.

Thanks for the praise. So far i have the asm patch working so that each light world area has the equivalent dark world area as its overlay. The scrolling is sorted however some of it such as bumping into walls doesnt have the desired affect.

Still a lot of work to get done but i also looking into how i can get link to walk over and under objects...not sure if its possible yet though.

EDIT: Forgot to answer your question about the layers functioning. Ignore the picture when it shows bushes on both..it was just a sample of how it works. Those bushes on BG0 cannot be picked up. The main focus is the ability to put elements on top of others and as far as interaction with BG0 goes there will be very little if any at all.

There is something to fuss about...its a damn step forward for the future of hacking. Viewing leves and moving/editing existing objects i would hardly call nothing to fuss about. When it will be released doesn't really matter because every moment vl_tone spends on it means he has a bit more understanding of how the game works but I'd say it's definately worth looking forward too. To me its the sorta the first step of hacking a game anyway replacing sprites/enemies/objects in the already existing environments.

Just u guys are kinda making it sound like his work is a waste which im hoping isn't the case

Very cool. *downloads*.. Been looking a lot at the GBA Zelda's of late.. pity i dont know a thing about GBA ASM. I was making the assumption that the amount of colours for the HUD was 16 colours anyway. I thought that each layer by default was 16 colours. Shouldnt it just be a matter of adding in more colours to the gfx?

That's an incredibly old thread covered ages ago by everyone hear. Everyone pretty much discredited the guy for just using old/edited pictures of vl-tone's.

On occasion i use the term "gay" when i talk about something offencively but i dont delude myself into thinking i am free from being callled a homophobe in doing so.

You shouldn't either.

Those moblins look sweet. Always nice to hear on your progress GameMkr. It's odd how you seem (IMO) to be the only hacker who's successfully created a website to go with their hack without it being a gimicky thing. Pics and news updates are always a pleasure to read.

I bloody hope not. I love metroid games but the fresh graphics of the new title somehow prevented me from hacking Super Metroid. It just fealt oddly out of date to me. Hacking Zero Mission will be sweet. I'm assuming interdpth is just busy with life or stuck on a certain part of the editor making process.

I'm looking forward to it but the good thing about classic games is they remain classic even years into the future. When this comes out ill blast out a speed run hack of my own. Or at least try

My Question:

Does anyone know how to make a room have 2 levels? I can make it look like it has 2 levels, but then I can't walk underneath the floor while on the bottom level.

I will use Megaman-Omega's screenshot as an example:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/Megaman-Omega/Legend%20of%20Zelda%20The%20Eye%20of%20the%20Cataclysm/House.png

If you can help, thanks!
I assume you got the link from my sig? I'll need to remove it. I only uploaded it in the first place as a temp location for Orochimaru. He really needs to upload it somewhere permanent.

Not that I post much but I would like approval to post my 2 pence/cents every once and a while within the rom hacking forum or any forum that for some reason requires it :/

Experience in Zelda 3 ASM and Hyrule Magic Editing.

Once released a demo to a Zelda3 hack and one day intend to release a full game...or at least a cool arse ASM hack for one.

Hey sorry interdpth, i know u offered beta testing to me but annoyingly life has got in the way of my time in hacking community....again.

Probably best to email me as I pay more attention to my hotmail than my aim.

Still liking the sound of progress and images are always nice on the eyes.

I do like the new castle. I was one of the people worrying about it originally. Everything of late Ive seen and heard about Z3C sounds fantastic. As for the shading of it all, changing the castle itself seemed like an incredibly ambitious task which looks to have paid off...the only problem with it is that the design most likely uses a lot (if not all) of the 8x8 tiles avaliable and from the look of it uses the entire (limited) palette that Z3 allows.

Nice to see what youre programming MON. Even if you do call it limited its still something very much needed in zelda. Im sure Black Magic will be awesome to behold once its released.

Being more appreciative of just how complex asm/programming is I find it amazing weve got as far as we have with being able to edit Zelda.

As for an asm hack im working on at the moment...I have a question regarding the custom build HM...Was it you who made it Im having trouble remembering?

But this gets completely disregarded in most theories.. It was almost always considered to be before LoZ, LoZII, and even OoT (again, this is stated in the OoT strategy guide in the retrospect section). This would completely offset a lot of the timeline theories out there, as they place LttP towards the end.

Oh, as for Mario timeline talk ... MUSHROOMS.
Nowhere have i ever read that LttP was meant to be based before OoT. Ocarina was always theorised but not 100% officially announced to be the 1st in the series. Events in the Prologue to LttP seemed to directly describe the events in OoT. People just got confused over bad translation back in '91...or so I have always believed.

I don't like the fact Nintendo neglect to create some continuity with their games. Mario very much IMO needs a history line established. Paper Mario has proven that Mario's universe is incredibly vibrant with some crazy diverse characters. What they really need to do is have each game standalone but have references that connect them together. Its all very well being a young kid and not caring about the bigger picture but just because I'm older doesn't mean I am going to stop playing Mario games....I just want something slightly richer in story with the fat plumber.

I was never a big fan of YI to begin with. It always fealt somewhat sluggish to me after being able to complete Mario World and SMB levels incredibly fast - in contrast YI at its slowest was sooo slow. And I agree about the ground looking like cheese in YI2. Its seems to have borrowed some of its graphical style from Super Princess Peach, a style that I hated.

Posted on 12-08-06 02:30 PM, in Wii, 360 or PS3? Link
PS3 is too much money (relatively speaking) that I can't justify spending when nothing on it looks good to me. I can't stand the boredom of Metal Gear Solid and am not a fan of Gran Turismo...so the wonders of the PS3 are lost on me.

My x360 on the other hand seems to only be about online gaming...however that will change next year with Bioshock, GTA4, Resident Evil 5....I do love my copy of Dead Rising though.

The Wii will have Metroid Prime 3, Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Galaxy and Wario Ware so I'm pretty sorted for entertainment over the coming year.

But knowing my stance on consoles I'll probably buy the PS3 if I have the money to waste and theres at least one game that looks good to me.

Got my Wii on the friday and been playing Zelda all weekend.

Loving the new controls and the game in general is a very impressive step up from Wind Waker.

I took a fair bit of notice of the things people complained about in reviews, mainly the sound issues with voice acting and lack of orchestrated music but having actually played the game and understanding the limitation of the gamecube media, which people seem to forget, i don't have any issue with the audio.

20 hours in and I've just started the 4th dungeon which looks pretty cool.

I find it odd people always refer to OoT when talking about the game but throughout I keep noticing nods to all 3 of the 3D Zeldas. Graphics are closer to Majora's Mask IMO along with a lot of the atmosphere and plot elements (defending a horse and cart for example).
