They're 16x16. But I do agree that most levels will look empty. The only solution then is to space things out a bit more. For example, most ? blocks are 2 spaces above the ground; I could put them 3 above.

Bio, that's totally awesome!
I'd like to see you use X and Y for two different attacks, as you said. (edited by Pac-Man on 05-16-06 07:16 PM) (edited by Pac-Man on 05-16-06 07:17 PM) (edited by Pac-Man on 05-16-06 07:17 PM) (edited by peter_ac on 06-06-06 07:57 PM) |

EDIT: Sorry, my method actually doesn't work. Maybe there's another way. (edited by Pac-Man on 05-16-06 08:22 PM) |

No one knows how to change Rex's palette yet. My advice would be to just use colours B8 to BF for a different palette.
And about the tile thing, I remember somebody posting how to fix it on the old board last year. I'll take a look for it now; if I find it I'll post it here. EDIT: I couldn't find a thread with the issue, but I found a chunk of data on Rex (I've highlighted what you need in pink): ------------------- Rex -------------------- 0x1984C rex tile horizontal displacement table (0xC entries for facing left, 0xC entries for facing right) 0x19864 0xC entries (rex tile vertical displacement table) 0x19870 0xC entries (rex tiles) 0x1987C 2 entries (rex walking left info, rex walking right info) xyppccct format 0x19714 <- normal rex walking speed (loaded at instr $03/9564) 0x19716 <- smushed rex walking speed (edited by Pac-Man on 05-17-06 07:30 AM) |

It could use a LOT of work. And why is the first level a level from SMW???

The only highlight is the new GFX. |

Not to patronize him or anything, but I doubt he understood anything of what Alastor just said.
BSH: What you need to do is create an ExGFX file that contains the Dry Bones and Banzai Bill GFX in the right places. EDIT: @Alastor, oops, my mistake. Use the Super GFX bypass in that case. (edited by Pac-Man on 05-17-06 01:26 PM) |

Okay, as some of you know, I have a number of SMW hacks in progress. However, I simply don’t have time to work on them all. So that’s where you guys come in. I want you to tell me which hacks you want to me to make. Here’s a little about all of them.
(If a completed hack is listed, it means new version.) SMBDX: It’s finished, but I was planning on making a new version to fix all of the bugs, and include in the zip an extra patch that will turn most SMB3 graphics back to SMB1 graphics with a nice SMB3 “twang”. TLLDX: See SMBDX SMB2DX: A remake of all of SMB2’s levels with extra features such as the fire flower, cape, and Yoshi. All of the levels have already been made, but there’s still a considerable about of work left to do (overworld, ASM hacks, etc.) SMB3DX: Basically a remake of SMB3. This will include the “lost levels” that some people found in the NES version, and a rebuild of all of the e-levels from SMA4. The only extra feature apart from the extra levels is Yoshi. To be honest, I don’t know why I ever decided to remake SMB3. It’s already playable in the same GFX. There are gonna be loads of things it will lack. So why pretend SMW is something it’s not, and try to make it into something it can’t be? All of the SMB3 levels are already built, but like SMB2, there are a lot of things left to do. SMBE: A remake of all of SMA4’s e-levels, and SMB3’s lost levels, combined in one full overworld. By this, I mean it won’t be level-select. All of the levels will be laid out in several maps according to the theme of each level. SMWRMK: You’ve seen the screenshots. Brand new levels and overworld. My only really, original hack. SML2: A remake of SML2 for GB in colour with extra features. For screenshots, follow the link in my signature. GFX Hack: Making this was the biggest mistake I made in my whole life. It’s pretty obvious why. I was planning on making a new and improved version of this, but I changed my mind (for obvious reasons again) so I'm not going to. It's only in the poll to satisfy my curiosity. Yoshi’s Island: A remake of all of Yoshi’s Island levels and graphics. I announced this about a year ago, but shortly afterwards I decided there’s no way in hell I’m gonna do this, it could take YEARS! So erm, yep, it's cancelled. Like the GFX Hack, it's only in the poll to satisfy my curiosity. _¬ Personally I would prefer to stick with SMBE, SMWRMK, and SML2, (and drop the rest) but I still want to see what everybody else thinks. |

Bio, will it be possible to give Small Mario the ability to throw fireballs? If so, can you make the fireball come from his lower half rather than the upper half?

Huh, I didn't see this thread last month. _¬ Not too late then, I guess?
I'm Peter, AKA Pac-Man. I'm 19. I've made three SMW hacks already, and I have another 3 in progress. My hacks prove to be quite popular with the board, as showing/releasing my work always gets a great responce. I'm affiliated with SMW Central, I'm a Hacks moderator there. 1.What draws you to the ROM hacking community? The ability to make the games I've always wanted to. And also, I'm in college in the hope that I may get a job in the computer games development industry. My dream would be to work for Nintendo. 2. Do you think playing/modifying hacked ROMs should be more user friendly? Well it's becoming easier and easier all the time with new programs etc. I'm more or less happy with the way things are now. It defeats the purpose if most of the work is already done for you. _¬ 3.What are the advantages/disadvantages of ROM hacking vs. ripped sprites with code written from scratch? No comment. 4. Do you think there are limits to what people should be allowed to do with their games? No, asolutely not. I say they should go as far as they can. 5.What do you think about the future of the ROM hacking community? It's going downhill if you ask me. We're coming into the age where the stupid people are discovering this board, and annoying the smart people so much that they run away from the board. Good luck with the project. 300 posts! Okay, so here's what's gonna happen.
Super Mario Bros. DX: No more versions. The one at SMW Central is final. The Lost Levels DX: No more versions. The one at SMW Central is final. Super Mario Bros. 2 DX: I had a lot of help from SSM making this, so I'm just gonna let him take over. Super Mario Bros. 3 DX: I had a lot of help from SSM making this, so I'm just gonna let him take over. SMW Graphics Hack: No more versions. The one at SMW Central is final. Yoshi's Island remake: Heh, NO! It's never gonna happen. _¬ Super Mario Bros. E: In progress, keep an eye out for screenshots. Super Mario Land 2: Still in progress. By the way, because of the last poll, it will use SML2 GFX. SMW: Return to the Mushroom Kingdom: Still in progress. More screenshots soon, hopefully. Pudding: I ate it. Thanks for your input, everybody! |

The V, you currently have 3 versions of Starlight Remix at SMW Central. Tell me which 2 you want me to delete. And I can also see that you used Amber as the name of your earlier hacks. Would you like me to change that too? |
