Whenever I try to save custom blocks to my SMW hack with BlockTool, I get a message saying this:
"Lunar Magic ASM hacks not installed, please save at least one level in LM." I've saved levels in Lunar Magic, done parts of the overworld, etc., even before trying to use this program. Why am I getting this error? |

I'm pretty sure I did ^^
EDIT: Hrmarmammmm.... I tried reloading the rom into BlockTool, and that fixed it. Damnit, I feel really lame :o (edited by LemonPancake on 06-10-06 02:23 PM) |

Recently, I added a large amount of custom blocks (smb3 pipes) to my rom hack. I went to the Direct Map16 Access to place some custom blocks I added earlier, and...
OH SNAP ...all of the descriptions on page 4 were replaced with the name and description of one of the pipe chunks The blocks still work... what I want to know is, is there a way to fix these descriptions so I know exactly what the fuck I am selecting? |

Yeah, it looks like that was the problem after all. Thanks.

Does anybody have a smashable block that only breaks when it is touched by an object on layer 2?

Let's say we have an auto-scrolling level where layer 2 scrolls with the level, but (naturally) layer 1 doesn't. What I want is a block on layer 1 that breaks when it collides with a block on layer 2.

The sprite method sounds a lot simpler. Is there a tutorial on how to make custom sprites somewhere around here?

I know how to make my own ExGFX and stuff, but how exactly do you install other people's ExGFX to your own game? For example, I get these items in a zip:
"Doomship.bin" 4kb "Map16Page.bin" 2kb "Map16PageG.bin" 512b I know that the 4kb one is supposed to be the graphics. Are the other two also graphics, or are they Custom Blocks, or something entirely different? |

I have a particular level that I want to have mist in, but I also want info boxes there. Is there any way to prevent the info boxes from killing layer 3 when I hit them?

Any chance for a custom block that spawns Sumo Brother lightning below it when Mario movess 3 horizontal blocks or less from it (and, preferably, doesn't spawn another one until he moves out of the 3 block range and then moves back into it)?

Ok then... next request: An ice block that melts when it is touched by, not only Mario's fire, but also the Sumo Brother's lightning's fire.

I looked at a couple of files used as FG 1, and they appeared to only contain 0x00 to 0x3F in the 8x8 Tile Editor. Are tiles 0x40 to 0x7F in the 8x8 Tile Editor tileset specific, or are they changable by editing blank space at the end of the FG 1 file?
Edit: Hmm... this thread would be better off named "Gfx Question," dunno how I managed to enter "ExGfx." (edited by LemonPancake on 06-26-06 11:27 PM) |

I need a block that will act like an empty space unless Mario touches it from the bottom with a jump (ie no flying, no falling, etc), where it will act like an exit block.

What are you talking about son.
1. What. Put pipes.bin in your BlockTool folder and follow the instructions on Mikey's SMB3 pipes page to configure each pipe block correctly. Also be sure to patch the game with "pipes.ips" 2. I can't help you here, because I don't have the faintest idea of what you mean. 3. Why should there be any problem with it? 4. Use a SMB3 editor with an SMB3 rom. No. Edit: What you probably saw was a Layer 3 effect. (edited by LemonPancake on 06-28-06 01:05 AM) |

Thanks, I didn't know if doing something like that would work though.

He means the custom backgrounds at SmwCentral.
Basically, go to SmwCentral (if you don't know where it already is, google it), go to the "ExGfx" section, and download the files marked "BG" or "Background" that you want. The Lunar Magic help files and SmwCentral's FAQ should be able to tell you everything to do from here. (edited by LemonPancake on 06-29-06 03:44 AM) |

You may want to use the Doomship ExGfx for that boat, rather than using the default ghostship logs. And, yes, the overworld is bland. Try to space out the levels more, and don't be afraid to use curved paths. Curved paths are... your... friends... (edited by LemonPancake on 06-29-06 03:48 AM) |

The problem is that you didn't delete and re-do the Layer 2 Events. Soulblader pretty much said the same thing, but he said it in unbearable ass-speak. What you need to do is go into Layer 2 Events mode, press Page Up until all of the original Yoshi's Island paths appear, and delete them all. Then, you just lay paths from the Layer 2 Event Tile Selector in the events that they are needed in (select the event with Page Up/Page Down).
