The Overworld looks quite boring.
The hills on the right side are to constant and the top hills doesn't look really good.

Recapitulating, the overworld is to constant. It needs some diversion, like trees other grass and other hills.

You may want to use the Doomship ExGfx for that boat, rather than using the default ghostship logs. And, yes, the overworld is bland. Try to space out the levels more, and don't be afraid to use curved paths. Curved paths are... your... friends...

Savio, son of Mario. Interesting. Evil empire. Interesting. That's like, the double-cliche plot right there. But hey, I'm not playing these games to play a book. I'm playing them to see how terrible the level design is.

Starting on a ship is interesting, but the fact that you just used the same tiles over and over again bores me so. Go get something new.

Yeah, the overworld's boring, but you start on a ship, which is pretty cool.

You can tell how good the entire hack will be based on one screenshot? Wow!

Anyway, my comments on the images.
1) Background is nice, foreground not so great. Doesn't really look like a ship, and plain blue water against a nice detailed background is akward; maybe if you used a dithering/fake translucency effect by drawing a checkerboard pattern of colour 0 across the water, so you could see the background through it, it might look better. (AFAIK, the layer 3 water does this.) If you can spare the processing power you could even use layer 3 water. Text is good but sounds a bit funny; could stand being re-worded (but at least the spelling and grammar are good ). "SAVIO" on the score bar looks a bit odd. Savio himself looks pretty good (bit of a beer gut though ).

2) Pretty mediocre overworld. Very square, the piece at the bottom with the path on it looks odd, you might have to build some new tiles for that. Mario should probably be centered on the ship, and it might be a bit neater if the paths were completely hidden until you got to them. The topmost hills need to be changed or removed; their green background against the water is just no good. The palm trees are nice; if you have another shade of brown, you could make the trunks more detailed, but it's not really a problem. The edges of the islands would probably look better if there wasn't dirt showing in the gaps in the grass; I think you just change palettes for that.

It's nothing fantastic, but it's certainly not terrible, which in this forum is pretty damn good. Keep at it!

Unpredictable. Watch your backs. Or not. Whichever. I want Metal Gear Solid 4 so badly.

Well, you've managed to disgrace Star Wars. If you're making a hack based off Star Wars Episode IV, this was done rather poorly.

The screenshot in this post has an nice background, yes. But it is one that I have seen in loads of hacks. Perhaps you should try making your own background gfx, instead of using other people's ones.

Other than that, I like it and the idea. I'd say a 7/10 on the completed version, but I'm just a nice person so...

Keep working on it! Good work so far.

Yea you should DEFINITELY(is that how you spell it ), definitely get the doomship tiles. I like the background, but it just doesn't fit, and, like James Mcguire said, it's been in lots of hacks. Overall, i'll give it a 8/10 for effort, 7/10 for (what should i call it, achievement?)

Pretty good job
