Originally posted by KATW I believe it went something like this... Someone, as a prank, put a firecracker in the mute of a boy's trombone. While the kid was playing in the band/orchestra/whatever, the thing blew, knocking the boy backwards, launching the mute and knocking over the conductor, and the slide flew and embedded itself in the chair in front of him (or something similar). Ironically, when the Myth Busters packed it full of TNT as the final "test" only the slide remained. |

I remember that episode of Myth Busters. It was funny, loading an instument full of TNT.
Although, I also remember a similar incident when I was in High School, only the kid caught on early and tossed his instrument away before it exploded. From what I heard in drifting random conversations in the hallway the next week, it was two cherry bombs that damaged school property, and the kid went to Juvy Hall for a month for that incident. |

I really hope I never experience explosive materials in my instrument. I mean, that kind of thing could just ruin your day
About as much as what happened to Gary Tyrrell at the end of The Play. |

Bicycle.
Gravel. Pain. I don't think I need to say the rest. |

I did that once, Alastor. With less pain, of course. Speaking of bicycles, I never really got the point of handbreaks. They simply make the bike harder to control because your hands are distrupted by them (thus, you can't turn as easily). What was wrong with pedalling backwards to stop?

You don't have to have your hands around the brakes at all times... Only put them there when braking.

Originally posted by Alastor the Stylish Yes but...it's still rather inconvenient. Especially if you want to stop quickly. My first instinct would be "go back" (or pedal back) rather than "move your hands to the handbreaks. Also, as I mentioned, they could get in your way even when your hands aren't around them. |

I haven't had trouble with it. Ever. Only reason I crashed this time is... A pothole. And not bothering to brake.

Well, your hands should probably be on the handlebars rather tightly when you want to stop anyway, to avoid flipping off the bike. Beyond that, there's probably a good reason by all but kids bikes have handbrakes rather than footbrakes.

I think that actually may have been part of my problem. I find it harder to brake with my right hand than my left... And the left hand brake is the front wheel. I had been braking to slow shortly before hitting the pothole, and though I wasn't exactly braking hard, it may have been enough to let it throw me =/

I've done the gravel/pain part but I don't ride a bike so...

I did. And the bandages. And my family is hounding me to take pain pills, but I refuse.
Lord do I ever hate this But it doesn't feel as bad as I thought it would. |

Hand brakes > Foot brakes
Simple. Been awhile since I have been on a bike, but when I was younger, the fun and the falls were awesome. I once tried to carry a heavy trash bag between two bikes. (Each handle of the bag was placed on one side of the handle bars) Sadly. It failed. Nothing better than falling off your bike with your friend and being covered in trash. |

What about falling out of an AIRPLANE and being covered in trash?

That sounds...pretty awful. Probably the weirdest thing I did was when I was getting a TV back to my dorm room from a place on the edge of campus (the guy was giving it away for free). Pretty heavy, and biking with no hands most of the time. Dangerous and possibly quite stupid...but it worked.

Couldn't you have at least strapped it to your back, though? Or caarried it without a bike? Or had it driven there?

Pfft.
I once carried a cardboard box filled with giant rats who had rabies. Across the university campus. Naked. |

Somehow that reminds me. Has anyone ever set up ramps and then put boxes in front of them and biked up off the ramp and smashed into the boxes in midair? It's fun. |

Originally posted by Thoughtless Yeah, but it wasn't on a bike, so it doesn't count. Speaking of odd scenarios on bikes, what the hell was up with Paperboy (the game)? I mean, it seemed that everyone wanted to kill that guy. I mean, if you were trying to deliver newspapers, and you saw the FUCKING Grim Reaper standing on the sidewalk waiting for you...well, I don't know about you, but I'd take it as a warning. |

It could be worse.
He could be delivering knives, and have to aim them carefully to the houses of assassins, avoiding the houses of non-assassins. |
