Yeah. Kinda big. It's an entry for an art contest at MFGG.

So, what do you think?

Edit: BG removed for better viewing.

Edit2: Mario fixed. Here's the original.

Bio, Alastor -- care to elaborate on either of your points?

As for me, I'd like to know if that red stuff is supposed to be emitting red light... it might be cool to have red light on the edges of things.... ie, the cliff, the flying things, etc, and possibly add to the dark feeling of the pic. Red light in the clouds, too..... make it look all hell-ish and scary

Mario's right arm looks considerably thinner than his left. I think that's clear enough. Other than that, the landscape seems a little too plain (perhaps Tarale's suggestion could help with that), and the larger airship looks like nothing's holding it up or pushing it forward...

Not too bad, but there's room for improvement.

Eh. Mario looks too tall, and the face seems too serious. Various body parts are not proportional to how Mario is "supposed" to look. Simply put, he's off-model

Thankyou for elaborating. That makes more sense than "off model"

Continuing with the right arm trend... it doesnt even look attached to his body...

Either that, or his shoulder is SERIOUSLY contorted...

Personally, I think it needs an erupting volcano on the horizon... but thats just me... anything more on the horizon will do... it looks too empty. (Yes, I realize there is a SMOKING volcano, but that isnt erupting now, is it )

I also cant tell what Mario is standing on in the picture... is it a doomship, or a cliffside? And yes, the addition of luigi is a must to make this picture feel complete.

Also the ground could use a little more work, rather than just plain... black. Add a few hills, maybe a small lava-flow... a cave. I realize its called darkland, but thats all it is... dark... not black.

Thats all I can say for now... Its a good concept ...

BTW, whats MFGG?

Hmm... you're right. I guess I shouldn't have made it at 10:00 at night.

I'll go fix it now.

Edit: There. Is that better?

Edit2: Oh, right. MFGG is Mario Fan Games Galaxy, a large collection of sprites, tutorials, and whatnot, plus a message board. Home page, message board.

I have a question:
What program do you use to make your work? I am thinking Photoshop, but I am not sure. Seeing from your comic the blur effects and whatnot...

One of my gripes involve the lava in the background. It could look more like a river without the horizon cutting it off. If you remove the horizon from above the lava and have the lava go into the background, then it could work.

Eh, didn't word it right. Let me get a pic of what I mean...

The attachment will show what I mean. The left on is what you did, the right is what I think would improve it a lot. See how it looks like it goes off as a river instead of a pool of lava? Something like that could really help it in my opinion.

I use Jasc Animation Shop 3.0. Yeah.

And it's really supposed to be just a pool of lava. Like a moat. But less effective. And only on the sides.

Unbelievable, as always. You own. Nintendo should hire you to make pictures for their websites and stuff.

I can't see anything wrong with this picture as it is. (I never saw the before-edit, though.) I actually like the way you did Mario-- it makes the scene reminiscent of the flash-animation "Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom". More like a more serious, action-type scene (even with no action) than a typical, Mario-lighthearted one. There needs to be more of these kinds of Mario scenes. That are more serious than lighthearted, that is.

Maybe add an airship closer to the left on the horizon or two to make it less plain, to the right side of the smoke... if you want to go with KATW's criticism of spicing up the horizon, anyway.

What are the dimensions of the pic? I hope I could make it a wallpaper, but I don't want to ruin it with Stretch...

I actually made it 800 x 600.

And you're right, an airship would look good in that spot. I'll look into it.
