That Atlanta Washington game was crazy. Back and forth and easily could have gone either way. Yeah, now Montreal is in. I'm just really pumped for the playoffs.

Around where I live, I swear there's like noone who likes hockey(except my friend Chris from Detroit) at all and most people in my school know I like hockey a lot and I get a bunch of crap for it, but I just laugh at them.

Re: the worst pro sports franchises.

[02:12] NilocM2K: But I'd put Boston WAY up there.
[02:12] DrJayPhGK: Eh...
[02:12] NilocM2K: All that Jacobs cares about is PROFIT.
[02:12] DrJayPhGK: They at least have a local TV deal. (editor's note: I was saying the Blackhawks should be up there)
[02:12] NilocM2K: Before the cap came in, he EASILY had enough money to build a great team but chose not to so he could pocket more cash.
[02:13] NilocM2K: This year, as soon as he saw things weren't going right... fire sale. Without fail.
[02:13] DrJayPhGK: Mmm.
[02:13] DrJayPhGK: You know who wouldn't let that happen?
[02:13] DrJayPhGK: The Juggernaut.
[02:13] DrJayPhGK:
[02:13] NilocM2K:
[02:14] DrJayPhGK: He'd just look at Bettman and say "who the fuck are you? What the fuck is wrong with you? I'm the JUGGERNAUT, BITCH!"

See, in Montreal... well... come the nights the Habs are playing the Canes, cafes and restaurants will be pretty dead.

Bars, on the other hand, will be doing record business.

I hate when the playoffs are so hard to call... I have picks to do AND have to select players for a pool and have no clue who to pick in most cases.

Bah to parity.

The opening games of the playoffs start tomorrow, and as pumped as I get, noone around me seems to see why I'm so excited. With only a handful of others who even care about hockey that I know in my hometown, I'm basically going to be watching games alone. I know I'll be watching Detroit's first game with my friend from Detroit though so theres at least one game I won't watch alone.

Copying your own posts from other boards is fun!

Ottawa vs. Tampa Bay - This is going to be a really good series. Tampa aren't exactly the #8 seed you'd want to play; they're a fast skating team and fun to watch on TV. However, Ottawa's a very dangerous team who's (well, minus Hasek really) healthy again. If Emery doesn't choke under the pressure, they'll be fine... but Tampa will make it interesting. Ottawa in 6.

Carolina vs. Montreal - I'm happy that Gainey chose Huet to start on Saturday; even though Aebischer is the more "experienced" playoff goalie. You have to go with who brought you to the dance, and when Huet is on his game he's hard as hell to beat. Montreal have to forget about the four one-sided losses to the Canes this season and come out hard in Game 1. Regardless who wins, this is going to be a really close, tense series... Montreal in 7.

New Jersey vs. New York - Jagr vs. Gionta, Lundqvist vs. Brodeur... this is a hell of a series. I'm torn on this one because Jagr can help lead the charge to the Cup, but if he plays like he did the last few games of the season then that's a moot point. Brodeur can carry the team on his shoulders but they need to give him a lot of support; and besides, Jersey's due to lose after that 11-game win streak. I'm not confident that the Rangers can go all the way, but at least for now... New York in 6.

Buffalo vs. Philadelphia - Philly's in deep trouble. Forsberg can't be at 100% and I'd be surprised if he lasted the whole series; as well, the goaltending situation is really shaky and you'd have to think Buffalo holds the edge in that department. Buffalo isn't a flashy team or an explosive team, but they definitely have chemistry... and I have the feeling Philly's going to lack that throughout the series. Buffalo in 5.

Detroit vs. Edmonton - Poor Edmonton. They don't have a bad team or anything, and they've played well against Detroit this year, but still... this is not going to be pretty. Edmonton will win a game or two along the way with some last-minute heroics, I suppose, but Detroit is REALLY scary and certainly have what it takes to go all the way. I'll be generous with my pick, but if it's a sweep I wouldn't be surprised in the least... Detroit in 6.

Dallas vs. Colorado - I really haven't seen a lot of Dallas this season, but they've impressed me. They have good goaltending and an extremely solid team... their one real weakness is the power play, and they can't afford to throw away chances in this series against a good Colorado team. They have a real chance if Theo stands on his head, but if he doesn't and they end up playing roulette with Theo/Budaj... not a good sign. Dallas in 6.

Calgary vs. Anaheim - If Montreal can't do it, I'd be more than happy with the Flames going all the way. I doubt this is going to be a high scoring series, but it'll all come down to Kiprusoff and Giguere. The former led the league in shutouts this season and this is the perfect chance for him to add to that impressive record. Might not be the most exciting series, but it's late night hockey so I can't complain. Well, unless we get some 3OT games, and that's possible... Calgary in 6.

Nashville vs. San Jose - Nashville is the worst seeded team in the whole bunch. Mason MIGHT be able to steal a win or two but he's even worse off in regards to NHL playoff experience than the other "rookie" goalies... he doesn't even have that much NHL experience! Nashville by themselves aren't horrid but San Jose is a real dark horse provided Thornton and Cheechoo continue their magic. After his playoff failures in Boston, I suspect Joe's going to want to prove the critics wrong here. Probably the easiest series in the first round to call... San Jose in 5.

I like all but 3 of those choices. In my opinion, I think Colorado will beat Dallas, New Jersey will beat New York, and Nashville will beat San Jose. Your other choices are what I think.

I am pretty much going to have to go with Colin on this one. One exception... I think that it will be Colorodo in the 7th, not Dallas in the 6th.

Too bad I have to work on most of the nights that the games are on... I was so looking forward to watching Detroit win...

Sorry guys, gotta root for my home team.

Yeah, I'm a Detroit fan myself. If you're wondering why I don't root for my hometeam, Columbus, it's because us here in Ohio never had a hometeam when I was growing up. So being around 3 or 4 years old playing NHL 94 for SNES, I liked Detroits emblem, then just started following the team as I got older.

Detroit somehow made a comeback but that was awesome. I'm kind of questioning the goaltending in that game though. Legace let 2 goals in in 7 shots. Maybe it was an off game or the quality of the shots but it made me wonder if he can help carry Detroit further in the playoffs.

So far all my picks are up a game. We'll see what happens.

Jagr might be out with an injury.
Montreal beats Carolina 6-1
New Jersey beats New York 6-1 (Elias -> 2 goals 4 assists)
Colorado beats Dallas 5-2
Buffalo vs. Philadelphia isn't finished as I type this.

Montreal yay. (team was awesome)

Montreal played well but we didn't deserve 6-1. Carolina SHOULD have taken us out in the first two periods but Huet played fantastic and they couldn't get a good power play unit going. I know that Carolina's going to be out for blood next game but it's a promising start.

Poor R.J. Umburger got CREAMED tonight and is apparently out for the rest of the playoffs with a really bad concussion. Clean open-ice hit but he was admiring his pass and... :\

Glad we won 3-2 in double OT, though

You as a Montreal fan sound just like my Dad. He never looks up to his team, it's always Montreals not going to make the playoffs, then they did. Then he says Montreal won't beat Carolina at all, then they crushed them. I don't know whats going to happen to Montreal, but I think they can beat Carolina if they play like they did last night. Just how you said Montreal didn't deserve the win reminds me exactly of my Dad.

Ottawa loses to Tampa Bay after a late goal.

I left my house and seen Detroit up 2-1. I check the score at the end and my mouth dropped, 4-2. Hope Detroit comes back and wins the series.

It's a quarter till 2 in the morning...

Red Wings and Oilers are going into 2nd overtime...

The freaking goalie bumped the net and lifted it. At first it looked like the Wings had a goal but you saw in the replay that it went underneith... because the goalie bumped it... Talk about a heart dropping moment.

Edit: Wings lost in 2nd overtime... Manny got caught offguard after a beautiful backhand save.

He wasn't caught offguard, he couldn't do anything about the shot. I'd be more concerned about how his D left him dry on that one.

I stayed up to watch that game just to see Detroit make 2 great comeback goals then lose. I don't think it was too worth it to sacrifice sleep to watch it and I only got 4 hours of it for school the next day (but I'm going to do it again Thursday). Detroit was looking great, shooting a lot but couldn't make the goal they needed in OT. I just hope the Wings can pull through before they lose to Edmonton.
