Well I just reinstalled a clean, fresh copy of Windows XP Home Sp1 on my computer, I'm wondering should I do Windows Update?.

Alot of people told me that its just a waist of space and time, others say that I should have it for Security, I dont really know what I should do.

So what do you all think?, Should I do this or not what are the pro's and con's here in this situation?

Do it.

Windows is like Swiss Cheese.

With Windows Update, it's still like Swiss Cheese. But with less holes.

Windows Update is important. It fixes bugs and blocks known security holes. Blocking these holes helps prevent your computer being infected with worms, or other attacks. In a home environment, I would just set Windows Updates to be automatic, and allow Windows to update everything.

The first thing I'd do if I were you is get Service Pack 2.

In a Corporate Environment, with lots of custom apps and such, it's best NOT to Windows Update unless the patches have been tested with your system and custom stuff, but this doesn't apply to you, so update!

I'm just hopeing updateing it will not affect being able to download from p2p programs and not being able to download faster.

Also does it add up on the space?, I only have a 40gb harddrive and was hopeing it doesent get to big in space

I don't think the space thing is an issue.

Okay, here's the thing -- would you prefer to be protected from viruses and worms, or would you prefer not to update and then find that your computer gets Blaster (yes, it's still out there people) and keeps rebooting or something....

You can modify Windows Firewall to let certain traffic and software through, so it won't affect your p2p or anything.
