| Well, just hang out with her... what else can you do? You're 21... they can't do anything about regulating you seeing her. Just simply go. I just wouldn't bring her up around them as a topic of conversation so much. When you get on your feet, and maybe if you guys are still seeing each other... and maybe you'll be living on your own... then you can tell your parents that you're seeing each other. I mean it's not like you're getting married. Just hang out with her right now.. because you don't want to pass up an amazing oppurtunity because your mother is racist. That's ludacris. | |||

| If you dad doesn't like the way you talk to your mother, just don't talk to her. I suggest you explain the situation with your girlfriend if you haven't already.
Just tell your girl that you want to leave somewhere with her. Find somewhere to hide if your mom cannot deal with it. Either you choose someone that makes you happy or you keep yourself chained to your mother for goodness knows how long. I'd go with the first choice dude. |

| Perhaps try to bring reason into it. Make your mother say what exactly her problem is. Perhaps when you can show her that she has no good reason behind it, she might realize she has no legs to stand on...she might not be happy about it, but it might cause her to be less antagonistic about it. | |||

| That's what I'll do. She's going to get over it whether she likes it or not.
Today, I told my family she E-mailed me, and wanted me to send her a picture of the two of us, from my little trip. It was a cute picture; I think she wanted to show her friends, but anyway when I told my family this, my mom looked at me with this look of disapprovement. Well I told my brother when we left to go get some things, that I was going to just simply be respectable, and keep it cool, yet I will still state my beliefs against the racism, and she will have to get over it. I like this girl, she likes me, and that makes a couple; not race! So that's what happened today. It's so nice not to be banned longer than a day....WHEW!!  |

| Well, you can't force her to get over it. I mean, if your mom's racist, then that *is* a terrible character trait to have... but you can't force her to change her ways.
It's basically playing the acceptance card in your case. They basically can't dictate who you can/can't be together with, and even if they have to resent the fact that she's of a different race... they still have to accept it. That sounds like a horribly complex sentence, so I'll just sum it up... you make decisions about the friends you have and the girlfriend you want. Not them. |
