Looking around i dont see any topic about immigration, which is surprising. I dont have a real strong position on it. But it seems to me that illegal immigrants could be creating unfair competition in our work-force (why pay a decent wage to an American when you can pay an illegal peanuts). What do you think should be done about it?

Immigrants generally take jobs that no one else wants. People who create a big stink about all the illegal immigrants we have here usually have high-paying jobs that illegal immigrants wish they could get. They do things like work in fast food places, trim lawns and clean toilets. Anyone who has an objection to this... get an education and I promise you that you aren't going to be fighing with Juan for a decent job in your field.

Immigration is the best thing you could do for a country. Control is needed, yes, but what is needed more is spending time teaching these immigrants how to properly integrate with our culture. In my personal opinion, it is in their best interests if the immigrants like to become legal residents of that country. Mandatory, perhaps.

I mean, without trying to be too mean here, how many mexicans do you see doing very successfully that came to America on a boat?

These google ads are scary. At the moment the ad says "APPLY FOR U.S. CITAZENSHIP TODAY"....

In an immigration thread....

Anyway it's important to clarify the topic here, are we talking about immigration in general, or are we talking about ILEGAL immigration?

I was thinking Illegal immigration when i started the thread, but it does'nt matter much to me, let chaos ensue

Snow Tomato - True, if you're educated probably illegal immigrants are'nt a threat to your job. (though that could be coming soon with educated people coming from certain parts of Asia to take your job for cheap) But what about for the majority of Americans who are'nt college educated? School isn't for everyone, some cant afford it and others could'nt succeed at it. For the average working joe, illegal immigration could conceivably drive down his wage until he is living in poverty.

Personally, I think it's wrong to make about 12 million, including about 2 million children, aggravated felons. That puts all of those people on the same level as rapist, which many are not deserving of. If America wants to stop illegal immigration they should make citizenship easier to obtain and build up the Latin American economies that were and still are being decimated by our economic policies. Between U.S. supported dictators and U.S. economic "free trade" policies that operate sweat shops and tricking governments into borrowing money that will be near impossible to pay back Central and Latin America have been ravaged. A result of this is people immigrating into the U.S. to find money, escape persecution, ect. While it is not completely the U.S.'s fault, we have indirectly caused this in many ways.

Secondly, the Guest Worker Program is going to be used, mainly, to keep America white. Under the program workers can stay for a maximum of 9 years. What motivation does that give them to buy houses, get educated and integrate themselves into American society? About 100 years ago there was a similar fear that the new immigrants- Southern and Eastern Europeans and Jews- could not be part of American society and would lead to America's demise. History has proved this wrong; Jews, Southern and Eastern Europeans have both become "American." At the time the New Immigrants were treated with racial hatred and prejudice just like many immigrants are today. If immigrants come and go every 3 to 9 years what chance is there that we can overcome these prejudices?
