So I thought it would be fun for everyone to show off their verbal mastery, and for each of us to share a nifty and interesting word each day.

*Rules*
1. Only post one word per day.
2. Post a definition written by you, not pulled from a reference text.
3. Use the word in a sentence, also written by you.

Apotheosis - The process of becoming a god. It also means "ideal example", synonymous with "paradigm" and "quintessence".

Billie Holiday was the apotheosis of blues-jazz.

Incorrigible: unable to be reformed, no matter what you try.

As far as my homework goes, at least, I am an incorrigible procrastinator; no matter how many times I say I'll get it done before the last minute, I always wait until the end.

That's a wonderful word, but you spelled it wrong. It's defenestrate. From the Latin fenestra, meaning window.

sequacious - continually intellectual in manner.

That word always made me giggle a little.

By using this word, you will appear to be sequacious.

Antidisestablishmentarianism
noun : to be against the idea of having a national religion/church
"Isn't antidisestablishmentarianism the longest word in the dictionary?"

Actually, floccinaucinihilipilification is the longest non-technical word (with 29 letters), but it was made up as a joke so that it simply COULD be the longest word. Antidisestablishmentarianism is #2 with 28 letters.

Pelf - An informal term for money, it is usually loaded with connotations of "ill-gotten".

Lord Ruggart's pelf came into his hands through the rather convenient string of "accidents" that befell his elder, wealthier relations."

I love the word "defenestrate" and I use it a lot.

However, I'm also very partial to prerogative -- an often misspelled word, and one I am inexplicably attached to.

pre-rog-a-tive
Pronunciation : pri-'rä-g&-tiv
Function : noun
Etymology : Middle English, from Middle French & Latin; Middle French, from Latin praerogativa, Roman century voting first in the comitia, privilege, from feminine of praerogativus voting first, from praerogatus, past participle of praerogare to ask for an opinion before another, from prae- + rogare to ask -- more at RIGHT
1 a : an exclusive or special right, power, or privilege: as (1) : one belonging to an office or an official body (2) : one belonging to a person, group, or class of individuals (3) : one possessed by a nation as an attribute of sovereignty b : the discretionary power inhering in the British Crown
2 : a distinctive excellence
