You know what? that could be kind of cool after all, but you'd have to disable the flying (how many ninjas actually fly? )

I'm glad your back on it Sgraff, you've got my support 100%.

Disabling flight is pretty simple.

I even did it once, though only because more competent hackers provided me with the hex codes and such. Unfortunately, I don't remember how to do it anymore.

I have seen a few kung-fu films in my day. Ninja usually would glide with a kite-like glider.

Actually, there are several legends that involve ninjas flying. My personal favourite involves being strapped to a kite in a fashion not dissimiler to mario and his cape (hint hint) except one arm or leg goes to each side, as opposed to the corners.

I actually wouldnt be suprised if these very legends helped to inspire mario's cape flight technique (in addition to the obvious superhero thing.)

In fact, theres a very funny (and perverted) ninja anime called Ni Nin ga Shinobuden (often translated as 2x2 Shinobuden and being brought to the states as Ninja Nonsense) wherein the ninja cast is actually known to enact a version of this legend where they fly around on, you guessed it, parachuteish pieces of cloth, not unlike mario's own cape.

I knew that they had a cape flying technique as well. I just wasn't too sure about it though. I'll work on it though.

Here is what I have done so far:

-Separate GFX for Player 1 & Player 2 (Play as male or female ninja)

-Fireball shoots straight foward

-Increased the speed of fireball

-Increased height and air time of jumping.

*If anyone has any other ideas that can be changed to a more ninja-like fashion, tell me. I could increase the walking speed or animation. I'll try that later.

Any way possible to have the cape swing but without Mario spinning? If so, I could make an sword swing. But that also probably will interfere with the cape flying animations. I will have to see if a cape or kite would work later.

I just will have to start on some graphics this weekend.

Worked the opposite that I wanted. The cape stayed on his back, but mario spun. It also crashed after so far in the level.

I think it's a great idea and will do all I can to help you out with this. I've even decided to go ahead and try to make some Shiruken on my own, then I'll increase the speed a tad. I just did this because I felt like it, as I'm getting into the idea of this hack. If you want me to, I could send you an IPS file of the hack, with just the fireball stuff edited.

Yaaaaaay kunoichi! ^ . ^

Ive got lots of ideas, but I dont know how possible they are. I honestly dont know anything about hacking (I just poked my head in now and then to see if sgraff had put up anything new on Maria Sisters ^^0) but....is it possible to change mechanics? Like, Im thinking that you could remove yoshi as a mount by respriting all the mounted mario sprites into something different, and at that point it becomes just another power up, possibly with a new weapon or something. But then getting hit and watching your fuuma shuriken run away and having to jump on it to get it back would just be weird, so you'd have to alter those mechanics completely. Not that any of the yoshi abilities are particularly ninjaish, but you could resprite the tongue to a whip or chain or something, and the stomp attack would be pretty cool.

Something that might be easier to do would be to alter the starman. Instead of making you flash colors, have it make you invisible (ninja magic! HA! but leave the sparkles so you can see where you are) and make it so that youre still immune to enemy damage, but so you dont automatically kill them when you touch them.

Or, hell. Leave it so you kill them when you touch them. Thats pretty ninjay too, I guess XD But I still like the invisible idea.

Like I said above, I already did that.

Then again, I noticed in a lot of games that ninjas ride giant frogs. I just started to learn hex, so someone else would have to help me with that one. 0_o

I'll see if I can find a code and try it out. Sounds interesting.
Or even if it increased the player's speed for a limited time. That would be pretty cool.

Ah, yes. Another legend. Seems theres this ancient japanese animal trifecta thing of Frog, Snake, and Slug. Anybody whos seen even half of Naruto should be at least somewhat familiar with this. Now, I honestly have no clue where this comes from or what may have given rise to it, nor the original legend(s?) and its been a while since Ive done any research on it, so Ive forgotten most of what I did know. I think Snake trumps Slug trumps Frog trumps Snake, but I could have that backwards.

Oddly enough, Ive never heard of this in relation to ninjas outside of the whole naruto thing. I didnt know that ninjas were such a big part of it...interesting.

Oh. Well, see, what I read your previous posts as was that you'd gotten the fireball edited so that it would fly straight, but that you hadn't changed the graphic for it yet.

Dragons and Ninjas may or may not have any relation with eachother, but I think it would be pretty cool if you changed yoshi's sprite into something resembling an asian style dragon that floats along the ground instead fo walking. Maybe breathes fire or something instead of the tongue attack.

I think I might know what the player will look like, but there is some other things that I am thinking about. Should I have the enemies be yokai and other mythical demons such as oni and what not? I think I might. I will probably throw in some other ninjas as well.

As for the levels, I will have to think about it. Although I like to draw my own graphics, I will have to look at some other games for help with that.

I agree with SKN - Ninjis would be an ideal enemy to see often. However, don't overdo it with them. Other enemy ideas could include a ninja hiding in some round object to replace the shell, a Shuriken-throwing enemy to replace the Pitchin' Chuck, and so on. Basically, what I'm saying is make some Ninja enemies.

I like all of the above. Monsters and ninja and all sorts of stuff. Japan has an absurd amount of mythological creatures and related material to draw upon. I see no reason that, as a group, we couldnt come up with a replacement for all the enemies in the game, even within the relative confines of a ninja theme. And of course there has to be at least one level that is entirely ninji XD
