Aside from legendary slashers such as "Friday the 13th", do you know of any good scary movies?

The Good Son
-It's a suspense movie about a troubled kid (MacCaulley Culkin) who's jealous of his cousin (Elija Wood). He tries to kill his family but acts nice to everyone, making his cousin sound crazy. The plot is pretty good and the first time I watched it, it had me feel really anxious on some parts.

The Lost Boys
-A really good sucker made in the 1980's. This guy joins a gang of vampires and becomes one himself.

Needful Things
-A Stephen King flick, VERY good story. A mysterious man opens up an antique shop interesting everyone in the town. A boy that wanted a really valuable baseball card was told to turn everyone against eachother in exchange. It's amazing what material things can do to people.

Maximum Overdrive
-Another Stephen King film, the first one directed by King himself. A somewhat hilarious horror movie, all electric appliances and vehicles turn on humanity. A bunch of homicidal semi trucks invade a gas station holding a couple people hostage. This was the first movie I've ever watched.

I'm not generally a fan of scary movies...just not really my thing. That said, I felt obligated to watch "The Ring" when it came out because of all the hype that it was getting. And truth be told, I really liked the movie. It seemed interesting, and certain parts, particularly the end, were pretty damn creepy. I definitely made a few of my friends scream on the walk back to the dorm from the theater, too.

I don't know the name of this movie, but it was freaky. It had Burt Reynolds in it.(Yes I know! But it was still scary!!) and this woman's car broke down in this hick town; she stayed with his family, and his wife was almost a lesbian with this other woman; they locked her up later on in the home, and she couldn't get out. Later when she got out she ended up digging for some reason I don't remember, and she found their baby son they killed long ago, and the baby was all rotted and decayed; ugh! that alone had me freaked out. I probobly didn't explain it too well, but maybe someone here know what i'm talking about.

I copied these words from the site; here's the movie i was talking about. It's a whole lot freakier than what it sounds.

Plot Summary for
The Maddening (1995)
David and Cassie Osborne have an argument one night. So the next morning after David goes to work, Cassie runs off to her sister's house for a few days with their daughter Samantha. Only they never get there. David starts looking for them, and her sister, Joanne, thinks David had something to do with their disappearance, and calls the police. Actually Samantha and Cassie are with Roy and Georgina Scudder, and their daughter Jill. Roy picked them up after their car broke down. The only problem is, the Scudders, who seem a little odd at first, won't let them leave or call anyone.

I really like Cronenberg's early horror movies, like The Parasite Murders, Rabid, and The Brood. Videodrome is an incredible movie, but it transcends horror to become surreal art at the same time.
Night of the Living Dead is probably one of the best Horror movies ever made to.

I saw The Good Son

Good movie.

I saw The Ring but it didn't scare me. I also saw Ringu, didn't even faze me. I really don't get scared much. For a good scare I usually resort to videogames and such.

Zombie movies, though, freak me out and are more prone to make me scared than any other type of movies. Probably due to the fact that I dream about zombies more often than I do any other 'thing' associated with evil.

I have to say that some videogames i've played (Silent Hill, Siren) have been far scarier than any movie I can think of, because you get more into the story and are not just a passive observer.

Well, the other difference about the video games is that the main character can die at just about any time, whereas in horror movies, while some people are dying, some will survive, at least until about the end.
