| Well, put it together yesterday(Cut myself 3 times on the fucking heatsink), I freaked out when it wouldn't turn on at first(forgot to flip my PSU switch, whoops.)
I Fixed up the wiring this morning so I don't have shitty airflow going through the case, just installed windows a while ago, so far so good. I put these parts in this computer: Opteron 170(Socket 939, can't wait to see how it overclocks) Zalman 9500 heatsink/fan(stupid copper fins) DFI LP UT Ultra-D Two GB of DDR500 Crucial Ballistix RAM 74 Gig Raptor for games and windows 250 Gig Western Digital for everything else DVD Burner, Antec PSU and my great Radeon 9200.. So, how would I go about fetching several files off my old computer? I was thinking about just trying to send them through AIM, or connect my old HDD to this computer, any suggestions? |

| You are better off connecting the old HD into your computer. You probably have at least 1 HD and 1 CD-ROM drive. If so, then you have two more places you can connect an HD and CD-ROM drive to. Just make sure when you connect your old HD into your computer, you set the jumpers correctly. This is because you need to tell your computer which HD/CD-ROM drive is what--whether it is master or slave or by itself. Jumper information can usually be found on the HD itself. | |||

| Usually, when copying files from an old HD, I disconnect the CD-ROM(s) and connect the HD as secondary master. This ensures that any partitions on the old drive don't interfere with partitions on the existing drives, and also gives the fastest transfer rate (since the CD-ROM won't be bogging down the whole channel). | |||

Go to another computer,Burn them,Send to a server or just hook up old hard drive... not to hard to do |

| Connecting the old hard disk to the new computer will probably be the fastest method. If both computers have ethernet ports, you can also connect them through a home LAN or with a crossover cable. Then, use the LAN file sharing included with the OSs.
I have no idea why anyone would consider sending files to yourself through the internet to be a good idea when both the source and target computers are in close proximity. Even if you have a broadband connection, the transfer will be unnecessarily slow. |
