That is extremely disappointing. I love the first game, and while I haven't played the sequel yet, I plan on getting it in the near future. It's just such a really goofy concept, and was done so well.

But then, perhaps best for it to go out while it's still fresh rather than spawn a million unnecessary sequels and get stale.

Katamari WAS meant to be a one-shot game... it was only because of the fans and it's cult status that it got two sequels (with the PSP one coming out very soon).

Atleast it was able to give off two good games before the end.

Would've been nice to see it on the PS3 and such but meh, it happens.

Eh. Good series stop being made all the time. Why are you guys crying over THIS one? Surely you've been desensetized to this stuff by now.

Yeah, my understanding is that there were never supposed to be sequels in the first place, and the creator only caved to making We <3 Katamari basicallly because Namco threatened to do it without him if he didn't.

Oh, well, if that's all it takes, then I'll send him a letter stating that I will make Katamari Damacy 3 (or 4, I guess, if you're counting the PSP) one, by myself...and I'll make it really bad and give him credit for the concept and everything.

Ah, if only it were that easy.

The creator was highly against the first sequel. I think they threatned to do a christmas edition if he wasn't involved in it.

Anyone who heard about that shouldn't be surprised about this. Really.

On one hand, mediocre sequel-itis certainly would suck. On the other, this is disappointing news because it may be the premature death of a new and innovative gameplay paradigm. The concept behind Katamari is simple, but it does have lots of potential to be explored further. For example, it would be nifty to have puzzle-y secrets in a level, like a scale that you have to be a certain size to trip. (Or a passage that you can only get through when you're small.) And at the very least, it would be great to have new levels to roll around in. If there were a way to create and share new Katamari maps, I would be a very happy camper.

Because they want more of an especially unique style of gameplay that can't be found anywhere else (and that I don't see being developed further anywhere else). Most games are based on a common style of gameplay, so if they're a part of a series and the series dies, you can look elsewhere to enjoy much of what drew you to that series to begin with. There are other FPS'es, turn-based RPG's, war strategy games, beat 'em ups, et cetera. Where else are we going to go to roll things up into an ever-growing ball?

Well, yes, and there is certainly a lot of value still to be gotten in the game by replaying it. That's one of the really great things about Katamari Damacy. Still, there are new things that can be added, new areas, items, gameplay modes, and the like. Particularly with the new systems coming out, there could be 'upgrades' of sorts that really add to the game. And I think what we're saying is that it's disappointing that we won't be getting those upgrades, good as the games we have may be.

Using the power of the Cel chip the Sony Playstation Three while playing Katamari Damacy: Reloaded will be able to form its own "spirit ball" from other Cel chip enhanced appliances in your house (read: in 10-15 years everything including your dog)...Then they will merge and begin to have enough spiritual adhesive to start picking up anything...

Do you really want more sequels? Because that's what going to happen!

Hmm, well I definitely better look out for some copies of these now. They'll probably be worth something later on.

This does suck, but like others said at least we got a few games of the series.

I wouldn't be surprised if we end up seeing some kind of ripoff in the future though.

Actually yes, I would think that if that happened, it would be extremely cool.

I'm sure there'll be a ripoff and it could be very fun if effort's put into it. Even a freeware PC version.

Then again, the new game the creator's making could be at the same level as KD.

Do they spontaneously generate new level data and modes of gameplay? Mine haven't evolved that superpower.

I think any game will spontaneously generate new gameplay if you're on crack at the time. Isn't that your secret?

Even though I like Katamari, I agree with Alastor here.
