Yeah, I keep my hands on the home row... my laptop actually has spots where the keys are actually kind of wearing out where my hands rest on them. Of course, I also only use the left shift, so I don't quite have proper technique. Edit: Heart problems. (edited by Skreename on 03-16-06 01:14 AM) |

I have no choice but to ignore them while playing Starcraft or Counter-Strike.
I'll cheat on my typing when I feel lazy, but most of the times I use home row. (edited by [GGS] Cruel Justice on 03-16-06 01:30 AM) |

I only type with my index fingers but I can type very fast with them.
I don´t think I´ve ever tried to type using the home row. |

Oooh, I remember Mario Teaches Typing from the computer lab in middle school. How often my friends and I used it really speaks to how desperate we were during school hours for any sort of video-game-related entertainment.

The only time my hands stray from mthe home row is when I'm using the numpad, arrow keys, or mouse.
The only problem is that I tend to only use the left shift and only use my thumb for hitting the spacebar, but I think that's more or less just because of my horrible posture on the computer. |

barely, I can type alot faster if I dont use home row...even when I took typing clases in junior high, whenever the teacher wasnt looking I would take my fingers off home row so I could type faster.

Yeah, most of the time. Usually if I have to type while holding a page open then I'll type with one hand. When I can use both hands, I'll use the home row keys.
...as for typing programs... MicroType Pro, I think. I can't remember the name, but the program had an asteroid shooting game that you had to complete in order to win the lesson... |

Hunt and peck. Done me well for the past 3 years.
...6 months of keyboarding class changed nothing. |

Yeah, but how fast can you type with hunt and peck? The whole point of the keyboarding classes is to help you type more accurately and more quickly. It helps a lot, for example, when you can type without looking at the keyboard. Can you do THAT with hunt & peck?

Sigh, the home key is one of the keys that I don't use much. But I use it some times. I hope I can use it more later...

You mean so that the keys WOULDN'T jam.
Any by the by, anyone who touch types realizes that it's really not that much of a problem to type quickly with qwerty. Look, I'm doing it right now. |

Yeah, the keys that were pressed more often were put apart, so that should make it quicker to type, as different fingers can hit these keys.

I'd like to see someone try to type as quickly with hunt & peck as I can with normal "home row" typing, provided the same level of accuracy. And keep in mind that I'm not THAT fast a typist.
As for writing up reports for school, I disagree largely on that topic. With hunt & peck I can only go at a certain rather slow pace. My style for writing reports, and even posts, really, is done very much in a conversational style. With the actual "correct" typing system I'm able to type at a similar rate to that at which I talk. A bit slower, but not significantly. |
