In some games they have a optional boss thats harder than the final boss.
Well, Mine are either Culex from SMRPG or Abyssion From Tales of Symphonia. What about you?

I have to agree with you on Culex, largely perhaps due to the Final Fantasy reference and the brilliance of how it was done. Most of these optional bosses are just ridiculous and have nothing to do with the story, and Culex was no exception...but in that case, there was a sort of agreement that this was the case between the player and the game...it didn't take itself seriously, in a sense.

I don't think anything in that game was really taken seriously. Or at least after Mallow told Mario that he shouldn't rush into a fight like Bruce Lee.

Toughest optional boss, IMO, would have to be the Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts. And that's not the fanboy in me speaking. At all. I swear... iluvusephy!

The guy would call unholy hell on you in the form of a flaming tornado if you got to close, would chase you around like the ninny you were, jump super high while hooting like the N'sync guy who was doing his voiceover, and call gravity-esque halos over your head leaving you with 1 HP unless you stopped his attack. And fuck, while you've knowcked his health down 3/5ths, and while your feeling about dead, why don't we toss in omnislash and meteor? Yeah, kiss that Sora.

What makes that even more fun is the fact that Sephiroth is even harder in Kingdom Hearts 2.

Now for WORST boss ever, my vote would go to either Omega from FFX or the dragon in .hack//INFECTION. So much flash, not enough bang.

Ruby WEAPON is HARD to beat. You needed mad strategy and levelling skills to pwn him.

Well, I will agree with the Sephiroth in KH.

On the Ruby Weapon, I never thought it was that hard, I beat it easily, I always had a problem with the Emerald Weapon. I only beat it because I went into the battle and Yuffie had lucky 7s.

I frogot about him, his is one of my favs too. It it also cool how you have to hit him enough to see the life bat go down. When I first fought him I was like, "WHAT!?!?!? HOW DO YOU HURT HIM?!!?"

Definitely Culex, although I haven't played Kingdom Hearts. Though, speaking of Sephiroth, the Weapons in FF7 were pretty rockin.

I'd like more Culex-like bosses, though. No secret bosses in the M&L games, and what's-his-name the dragon in TTYD was pretty weak. I think he technically had higher stats than the final boss, but the more straightforward fight made it a lot easier. Plus the badge he gave you was useless. Culex was just all badass and pure drama and style. He was also a massively tough fight if you didn't have the Lazy Shell gear. Come to think of it, I think I had the Lazy Shell gear the first time I fought him, but I was a retard and put both the armor and weapon on Mario, so he was just useless. I somehow failed to notice the stat effects of the armor (I was a kid, it was my first RPG) so I was just like "DUR WHY MARIO NO DO DAMAGE I GIVE HIM GOOD WEAPON?????"

Anyway, Culex was just rad. I love that fight.

Which reminds me, Exor was also a badass fight.

Man, I love Mario RPG.

You're all pansies.

Sephiroth is a wuss in Kingdom Hearts. The Unknown in KH: Final Mix is about 10x as hard, AND it's a story battle. A story battle you don't have to fight, but still...

I never beat the Emerald Weapon solely because I didn't have the Underwater Materia. He was my bitch for about 20 minutes, and then suddenly it was game over 'cause I just didn't have enough air. Go figure.

Ruby was kinda tough: I just sorta used the cheapass phoenix trick to keep him from destroying my party members, and it was pretty lucky that I happened to have that reflect ring equipped on my KOTR/Phoenix caster. X-potions are very handy. And that Break materia saved my damn life.

Culex is also easy: Whoever has the Lazy Shell Armor is set for life, whoever has the Safety Ring is set for half-life, and the other guy is usually Mario the Glass Cannon anyway. Now Jinx... He was pretty damn tough for the time when I fought his third form. Much more of a challenge.

I never got the Attack Scarf or the Super Jacket.

Still, Zem, you do rock a little harder for your acknowledgement that SMRPG was awesome.

As for me... Well, shoot, now I have to remember what RPGs I've actually played. I'd say the version of Metal Mantis that's in Illusion of Gaia is damn tough, mostly 'cause you're Will and you can barely hurt him anyway. That, and you can't crabwalk like you can in Soul Blazer.

And they're all story fights, but god damn, some of the bosses in Earthbound are, if you're not properly leveled, damn near impossible. I particularly remember the Trillionage Sprout, SHROOOOOOOOOM!, and Diamond Dog being excessively tough. That and Ness's Nightmare, simply 'cause you're the kid alone. Sure, you might have a flying man with you, but come on, he goes down in like 2 hits.

Oh, and I never did beat Ozma in FFIX...

I tried Seph on KH for the first time when I was level 94 and had the Ultima Weapon, so... yeah, might have went smoother than originally planned Most of the time I was able to Superglide at him to knock him out of the 1-HP move when he started up the soundbite associated with it, but I thought that that was far more annoying than Meteor.

Emerald/Ruby Weapon gets my vote, just because they were so completely bitch-ass hard compared to everything else (both forms of the final boss have approximately 80k HP and I could kill each in one turn with the Quad-Cut materia and the Ultima Weapon) while they had 1 mil if I recall. I only had one W-Summon and one Mime so I couldn't rely on chain-summoning besides.

I've really only played SMRPG and Tales of Symphonia (Player 2, even), so I'd have to go with Culex, because I hate Abyssion. That jerk. I forget how we ever beat him... oh, right. Explosion! Explosion! Explosion! Explosion! Explosion! Explosion! Explosion!...

Star Ocean the Second Story. I had freakin Dias on level 138, and with 9999 HP and 778 MP. This Purple Bird thing on round 50 in the tournament in Fun Town was so hard, that I still can't beat him. "Master Attack" takes off 6000 HP and he uses "Peak" to take off 2500. He's too hard.

The only chance Sephiroth has with me is "Sin Harvest".

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

Beat the game, don't use the whole synthisis cheat, and try to beat some of the extra bosses/dungeons. I dare you. Just try it!

It's hard unless you level, a lot.

I really do wish that they had an English copy of KH: Final Mix out. And I mean english text, since the voicing is all done in English anyways. English casting done extra for a Japanese director's cut.. cheap.

Anywho, I caught a video of the fight with the unknown/organization member, and it really does look like a tough battle. Certainly seems a bit more fast paced then any of the other battles in the game (with the exception of Riku/Ansem in Hollow Bastion, of course). Also, I know this is complete and utter bull, but the unknown's attacks were extremely jedi-like in appearence. Two red beams = lightsabers. Lightning = force lightning. Lifted into the air by what appears to be the throat = yeah, that. And the organization robes just complete the image. Just something I caught in all my boredome of the day.

As for the Ruby and Emerald weapons, well... let's just say that I was surprised that they were designed specifically for the American release. Something that hard seems like it would be made for the hardcore, everyday japanese FF fanboy.

Ah, Megaman X and it's Street Fighter moves... classic.

It just occured to me that in Fullmetal Alchemist: Broken Angel, the fight at the end of the game that you don't necesarily have to win, the one against Mustang and Armstrong, was really difficult unless you were pimped out with cannon ammo and could keep the two tanks running. One at a time would have been impossable enough, but... god, it really was a challenge.

Since this already was bumped, I'll contribute also something:

If you really want a challenge, get Star Ocean 2: The Second Story. In the regular game is a possible scene which makes the final boss Indalecio (a spoiler tag is not needed since his name will not be mentioned even once before facing him) about three times harder than usual, by removing a limiter which usually is activated when facing him.

After the highest difficulty level is unlocked, all enemies have much more HP and power. Now try beating him without his limiter. He becomes a walking tank, moving at almost lightning speed, while having shitloads of HP, of course casting while moving and uber-hard to beat.
