The dragon easily evaded Johnathan's oncoming attack, and quickly took notice of Nijote's daggers. Dragons always have an eye for shiney objects, and Nijote's daggers were shiney enough for Volvagia to dodge.

However, thanks to the distraction provided by Nijote, the dragon didn't notice Johnathan's attack had exploded the moment it hit the floor. Large concentrations of ice had pelted Volvagia, quickly accumulating large chunks on its skin. Steam was pouring off of the dragon's body, but there was too much ice for it all to be melted at once.

Volvagia's movements were slowed down to almost a halt.

Hikari: Alright! Now that the beast's slowed down...

Hikari looked up. The amount of light pouring in from the newly made skylight was slowly going away. She then looked to the side. There was the path that Nova had mentioned. There wasn't anything else worth looking at except for the unconcious biggoron that was floating about in the lava.

Hikari was a bit amazed at how Mule Joe wasn't melting away in the lava.

Nova smiled as he got up from behind the rock and ran towards the slowed dragon.

Nova: Now let's see how you like the mountain treatment.

The rogue jumped at Volvagia, extending the claws on his gauntlets and boots, and proceeded to jump onto the fire dragon. Ice magic seemed to almost leak from the blades as he climbed as much as he could over the beast.

Nijote: "Follow me if you want to leave..."

Nijote limped over towards the Mule Joe floating in the lava. She jumped, using only one leg, landed on Mule Joe's back and jumped over to the other side. She turned around and threw a knife at the ground on the other side. A string was tied to it. She attached another knife at the other end of the string and stuck it in the cave wall beside her.

Nijote: "Hikari, you should be able to go across without it breaking, Mitra too, but everyone else has to jump."

Nijote started limping towards a cave in the wall of the cavern.

Nova: Well, yes, actually. The dragon's pretty high up, I could probably get a good leap from here on my own, and throw the rest of you. Or we could check out the cave over there. Your choice.

Through all of this, the Rogue was dancing along the back of Volvagia, encoating the beast in a layer of ice. This quickly turned into steam, but ever slower...it seemed like the dragon's body temperature was falling, not good for a fire beast.

Hikari: ... Tight rope walking, or being thrown upwards.

Farid was already bounding across Mule Joe's body. Hikari looked at Nova, then at the dragon. The ice was really thick at the top, but was starting to crack around its hands.

Hikari: Yeah.. I don't think it'd be safe standing near the thing. C'mon Mitra!

Mitra: Oh my... What about the kitty I'm sitting on?

Hikari: .. I'm sure it'll jump over just fine.

Hikari looked over at the string.

Hikari: I appreciate the gesture, but I think I'll be jumpin' over.

Johnathan: "You will not have much time to decide..."

He noticed Nijote's limp... That couldn't be good for someone so agile. He ran up to the edge of the lava, leapt onto Mule Joe, and spread his arms apart. He sprayed blasts of freezing water vapor over the lava points between Mule Joe and the other side of the cavern, and soon the lava was cooled enough to rise up as a pair of carbonized platforms. They wouldn't last very long, but it was easier for Johnathan to concentrate on keeping them cold than to just form a meltable bridge of ice across the moat... Johnathan crossed the far platform and ende dup near Nijote.

"Forgive me for this, miss..."

He knelt down and shot out his hand, grabbing Nijote's ankle. He knew it'd hurt her, but soon her ankle became encased in more ice. This ice, however, didn't melt so quickly.

"...But this is Permafrost. It is a special type of ice made from salt water... The salts from human sweat, to be precise. As it has a lower freezing point than normal ice, it requires a bit more of my personal concentration to keep frozen. I have reset your ankle, and the ice should numb the pain down there. You should be able to at least walk without a limp for now. Give it a few minutes, and you may be able to run."

He beckoned over to Hikari and Mitra, leaving Nova to deal with the dragon...

"Quickly, we have not much time! We must escape before the ice on the dragon melts."

Nova: Jeez, first you want to leave, now you want to explore. Make up your mind, alright? Sabor! Get down here, we're exploring further. Careful with the girl!

At that, the Great Sabrecat lept from his perch atop the hole, landing carefully on the platform. Nova jumped down from the dragon after delivering a final ice-enhanced kick to the head, and quickly bounded onto the animal. With a running start, Sabor made the leap to the other side of the chasm and stopped just a bit of the way into the cave. Nova released his protective grip on Mitra and dismounted.

Nova: Sorry about that, miss, but it seems your friend wants you to come with us, and this was the easiest way.

Nijote: "It's a sprain, if it were broken I wouldn't have moved without bandaging it. You're just wasting your time and concentration."

Nijote's limp didn't look any better, in fact, her entire stepped looked awkward.

Nijote: "And now you've added extra mass to my ankle. I won't even be able to make sure it doesn't catch on anything."

Nijote swung her foot towards the wall, but the ice stopped her foot from actually hitting. Several cracks did form though. She did it again and a part of the ice shattered, the rest fell off into the lava.

Nijote: "I also don't accept help from strangers with the power to freeze the air."

Nijote kept going at her own pace, which was still at about the same as a normal walk.

((I actually thought Sabor was inside the volcano with us ;; ))

Hikari: I'd prefer to see Mitra is still around than have her in the hands of a stranger, no offense.

Hikari ran across the platforms created by Johnathan.

Mitra: Why, Ah don't mind, suh. I wouldn't mah-nd a little explorin'.

Hikari: It's not explorin', we're just finding another way out that doesn't involve scaling a mountain.

The caverns were littered with old mining equipment and minecart tracks. There were boxes placed over bombflowers that were growing in the area. There were also a few wooden chests and bones laying around the area.

Hikari: ... Maybe it wasn't the greatest idea... but it's too late now..

((No, he was outside, and I stated as much in talking about how Mitra got to safety..."The dust had cleared, and the ground up to the top where the mining structure had been was more easily reachable. Sabor leaned over the top, the original kidnapper still draped over him, and Mitra riding slightly in front of the unconscious body. Nova looked up and smiled at his mount"))

Nova: None taken. Hell, even if I hadn't originally been sent on a mission jeopardizing your farm's safety. Given the circumstances, I'm grateful just to have the chance to prove myself trustworthy. What a cheerful place we seem to have stumbled into.

Hikari: Well, atleast we know why there ain't anymore miners around here. Hm... No birdcages... Well, I'm glad they didn't use animals to test if the air was breathable 'round here...

Hikari looks at Nijote.

Hikari: You sure you doin' alright? We could find a mine cart if you like..

Nova: Well, the birdcages are generally kept in the deeper levels of the mine, where the excavations were taking place. This seems to have been little more than a staging area. Don't get your hopes up.

The Rogue walked over to Nijote an produced a staff from inside his cloak, which he presented to her.

Nova: Now...I know you probably don't want to accept my help either, but take the stick. It might make things easier. *smiles* But I want it back later.

Johnathan: "The dragon will rouse soon... It is unwise for us to linger. If it does catch up to us, we will not have much in the way of breathable air to work with."

He glanced back through the tunnel that they had rushed into and overlooked the cavern.

"Then again, if it does catch up to us, chances are we would not have to worry about breathing for much longer afterward."

Almost as if on cue, there was a weak roar coming from where the group had came from.

Hikari: ... Ahummm.. I'd like to keep breathin' a little longer.

There was a cross path up ahead of everyone, with tracks on the left, straight, and right path. A small herd of mine carts slowly moved in from the left, and stopped at the center. And sitting on one end of the carts was a certain young man who was now wearing a miner's cap.

Hikari: You!

Farid: Ahoy, there. Be needin' a ride, do ye?

Farid was promptly knocked out of his cart by an oncoming fist from Hikari.

Hikari: We don't have time to be wastin' with a snake in the grass like you.

Farid: Damn, lass. This is the thanks one gets for findin' yeh something to move in?

Nijote: "No thanks. There isn't any reason to worry about me."

Nijote had long forgotten how annoying working with people could be.

Nijote: "I doubt that mine cart can carry the cat, I hope he knows his way out of here."

Nijote walked towards the mine cart and sighed. It was going to be a tight fit with six people...

Nova: Suit yourself, but I really don't think you ought to be trying so hard on your own. There's nothing wrong with accepting the help of others now and then.

The rogue helped Mitra down from Sabor before turning to the others.

Nova: There are a bunch of mine carts, probably enough for everyone, but several tracks. Any idea which way to go, other than away from the dragon?

Hikari: No ideas here...

Farid quickly jumped up from behind the mine cart he was knocked behind, catching Hikari off guard with his sudden movement.

Farid: I just happen to know the way, meself.

Hikari whacked Farid on the head, knocking him down to the ground again.

Hikari: Don't startle me!

Nova: You know, if he hadn't kidnapped Mitra and gotten us into this mess in the first place, I would say you're being just a tad violent. As it is, I think that's fair.

Sabor came over to Nova, who had approached the dazed ex-kidnapper. The rogue scratched the sabrecat's head fur as he continued.

Nova: Alright, you can show us the way, but I'm keeping you on a short leash. I'm very good at what I do, and so, I gather, is she *points to Nijote*...so if you do anything funny, it'll be the last thing you do.

Farid rubs his head as he slowly climbs into the minecart he was in.

Farid: An' I'm very good at what I do, too. I'm jus' not familar with treasure bein' a lass, savvy?

Hikari: .. whatever that means. Just get us out.

Farid: Patience is a virtue, lass.

Hikari: And there's a pissed off dragon behind us. Get with the direction findin'.

Farid: Fine fine.

Farid closes his eyes, and holds his head up high. His breathing slows down a bit. Hikari furrowed her brows.

Hikari: ...

Farid opened his eyes, and pointed at the path that was straight across to the one the group came from.

Farid: There.

Hikari: How'd you figure?

Farid: Lass, when yeh live in nothingness, with only the air, sun, and wits to guide yeh, yeh'll find out.

Hikari: I think you're full of it.

Farid: Yeh can thank meh later. All aboard!
