I'm trying to put some HDMA effects into my hack, and also use the SMB 3 music patch. I don't know if there's a way to do this, or if there is, I don't know how. If I put the HDMA then the music, it messes up, and if I do it the other way around. How would I go about doing this?

Really, I think it would be best if you just don't use SMB3 Musicat all. I don't like it. I don't know what you can do. I think all you can do is just use one of them.

But I like SMB3 music...and it would go great with the levels in my hack.

I would say, apply the patch, remove the header, and use the hdma home kit. I think you were forgeting to remove the header.

When I apply it and then try to remove the header, it says "Wrong file Size".

You guys will like it now, but when ~90%+ Hacks use it, it will get very annoying. I think HDMA is only supposed to be used with an unmodified ROM. what is glitching? the music, the levels, the graphics?

Although that is true, the latter of those two is fixable, plus except for the first part (the scrolling credits), the credits aren't exactly much to scoff at anyhow. We'll probably be able to fix that with a little address-hunting work anyhow. In my opinion, using SMB3 music as opposed to SMW music is more of a matter of situation. The SMB3+SMB patch has a wider and more varied range of music available, but is sort of repetitive in some tracks *coughfortresscough*. The SMW Music is less repetitive and has slightly better cave and castle music (plus ghost house music), but you have less music available to use and almost all have the same base tune. You should choose whatever suits your hack best.

Yes, because changing the music used in certain things - by hand with a hex editor - sucks, namely because you have to find the offsets yourself with most things.

Ok, I'll use SMB3 music still, but no one is on topic or answering my original question:

Is there a way to use SMB3 music with HDMA? If so, how?

It sounds to me like one of the patches is overwriting vital data used by the other (this is exactly why FuSoYa invented the RATS system). There's no way to fix it until we figure out what ROM space is shared between the two.

my hdma patch doesnt touch any of the music stuff, but its using rat tags.
it may be possible that the hdma and the music stuff share the same memory areas,.
the hdma stuff is fairly large.
i thought about compressing the tables and graphics for it at one point, but figured its not worth the trouble.

PM me if you are interested in the patch.
