NOTE: The rules that apply to the rest of the site STILL apply in the SMW Hacking Forum unless explicitly contradicted by any of the following rules. You have been warned. - JJ
1. Do not post questions without reading the fucking help file first. FuSoYa made it for a reason. Check FAQs at other sites (like SMW Central). Try finding a solution on your own. Do not come to this forum with a pointless question that's answered elsewhere. 2. Do not post crap. You can tell if your hack looks like complete garbage (see also: horrible palettes, glitchy level design, unfinished levels)... do not simply post screenshots and a demo if your hack sucks. Work on it, fix it, refine it, don't simply post utter garbage and try to pass it off as a hack. 3. Do not post the same thing over and over. Nothing irks me than 9 posts in a row like "wow nice level desigN " ... especially when they're given to things that obviously do not have good level design. Use your head. 4. Most importantly, READ THE FUCKING HELP FILE. I cannot stress this point enough (and it's the sole reason it gets mentioned twice.) Any thread, post, whatever, disregarding these rules will be moved to the SMW Shit forum because I'm tired of seeing it, and so are many other people. Not only does this forum make the board as a whole look like garbage, but it's making people who have half a brain (BMF54123, for example... FuSoYa too, probably) leave in disgust. The hacking forums as a whole need some serious refinement, but for now this forum is the main, number one, el grande problem. It needs fixed, and it needs fixed now. You win! It's about DARN time something was done about the countless stupid horrible hack demos that are nothing but yuck. This thread wins. It deserved to be stickied. (edited by Shyguy on 03-06-06 05:54 AM) |

We could put up a Lunar Magic FAQ on the AcmlmWiki too but yeah. This forum needs cleaning up.
I hardly read it for a reason. Oh, btw. Do your fucking homework. We're here to help you, not to help with basics. Read this before posting questions thx. Sorry if we sound Nazi, but most of us old-timers who been around is kind of tired seeing the laziness here. |

But if you don't have Lunar Magic or neither the help file, but you still hack SMW? | |||

There will be some serious skull cracking going on until things around here shape up. Personally, I will always give at least one private warning before asking that the banhammer be dropped, but you never know. |

Originally posted by Darthroma Yes, but the problem that this thread is attempting to address is that people aren't willing to read the help files or tutorials that often explain the answer to their problem. If a person isn't willing to help themselves, then why should someone else devote some of their time to helping them out? I don't think this thread is about banning all questions, just the ones that could be answered with a bit of basic research (reading the help files, looking through the forum to see if a similar question has been asked). |

Thank God someone made a thread about this. I was actually planning on doing something like this myself since the massive increase in "OMG I NED HELP WIT THE ExGFX!!11" threads started popping up.
The help file is there for a reason not to mention there are multiple tutriols teaching everything from the M17 crap, to simple level editing. You just have to look for it. |

Originally posted by ZTaimat An Announcement would be better. I'm glad this finally got adressed. some timps you might wnat to add: Show screenshots. Nobody wants to play a hack that they can't preview before playing. if you don't post screenshots, unless you give a heck of a lot info, you won't get any players. No joke hacks. Seriously. nobody wants to waste their precious five minutes reading a thread about a fake or purpousely bad hack. |

Basically, my policy is going to be like so:
Questions answered in either the help file (you may have to do some digging, but it's there), or one of the FAQs/stickied Q&A threads (which we need to keep updating if this is to work): GONE Questions that have nothing to do with SMW hacking (ex: "how do being upload screenshots?!?!?!"): GONE StOOpId/utterly non-specific questions (ex: "how to hacking overworld?!?!?!?!"): ka-GONE Xkeeper is absolutely right...I've pretty much abandoned this forum because it's simply gotten too far out of hand, and bears little to no resemblance to the SMW Hacking I used to know and love. It just sucks what little inspiration I have left right out of me. I love this game and [most] of the community far too much to just sit and watch it devolve into Pokémon Hacking II, and hopefully most of you are smart enough to realize that's exactly what it's becoming, and are willing to actually DO something about it. Help us help you. Take pride in your community! Stop the insanity!@#$% |

Hm, rather than simply do the slightly longer equivalent of "Quoted for Truth", I'll comment on the rules- as for the questions, certainly, if someone's dumb enough to not look at the help file I suppose they probably shouldn't be hacking anyway.
As for stupidity, though, I'm not sure. I mean, obviously we shouldn't have "joke hacks" which end up the opposite of funny, but I mean, I think we should be encouraging newbies, not filling their threads with insults. Now, some people are admittedly beyond help and are simply complete morons, which is why I'm not sure. On the subject of idiotic comments being repeated, a definate yes... though how can you judge level design from a screenshot in a game like SMW anyway? (I suppose you could in something like Donkey Kong or Lolo) Read the help file, definately. |

Originally posted by Imajin Now I'll have to agree. If a hack looks bad, don't just say it looks bad. Help out the person by giving constructive criticism. Don't say something is bad and leave it at that. Help the person improve the flaw, even if it means to tell them to do a lot of work. I question as to why this thread wasn't made sooner, but now that it is done, I don't care... |
