This is for Advanced ROM hackers only.
OK, since most of you here wanted to edit the SNES version of Mario Bros. 3 and some of you knew that I edit SMB3. (And SMB2J for the FDS). Now, the data can be found on my website here. Right now I'm currently working on level/enemy offset list and compare the differences between the M3i and the Hex Editor I used. My ROM is the original SMAS, not SMAS + Mario World. And some utilities to edit SMB3 for SMAS. For those who had Windows 95/98. Heres Mario 3 Improvement. And for those who use XP, ME or whatever, either switch your applications or edit them with your hex editor here. If you have any questions, you can reply for PM ME for more infomation. I just skimmed over the doc very briefly.
Perhaps you should consider the possibility that the high 3 bits (and not all 4 bits) are the bank number, and that the low bit is something else entirely. That would explain why the values are in increments of 2 for each bank. It's sometimes easier to break bytes into bits to figure out what each bit does rather than just breaking it into nybbles (hex digits). Perhaps try flipping the low bit off and seeing what it does? Or try looking at levels which have that bit clear and see what's different about them? Also I must give you a big thumbs down for trying to monopolize information. ("Reproduction of this document is forbidden"... "YOU SHALL NOT POST THIS ON ANYWHERE FOR PUBLIC USE other than insectduel’s domain" <-- pfft.. wtf) |

Well I just see it as an attempt to boost site hits -- when all it really does is make the information harder for people to find. If the doc is freely copyable/redistributable more people will have access to it and it'd be easier to find.
It seems to me that ROM hackers are generally far more greedy, are super worried about someone stealing their stuff, and are typically more hesitant on being open with their findings/information/source. It just seems so ridiculous to me. Fortunately, most emu authors don't suffer from the same complex (Can you imagine how different things would be if all emu authors withheld their source and only allowed distributed .exe's from their home site?) Regardless -- I feel like I'm wrecking his thread. The original post was about his doc and the information therein. Let's keep it about that. |

It's a discussion about your document in a thread about your document. What's off topic about that?
Now suppose your site were to go down. What happens to the document? |

I agree with Disch, for the most part. The document is badly formatted (split it into seperate HTML files. Use hyperlinks.) and here you are whining about people slacking off? Well it's no wonder! That thing is unmaintainable!

The point isn't to be an ass, it's to point out that you're not helping SMAS hacking very much if you withold rights to a game you can't even withold rights to. Plus I don't see an abundance of SMAS hacking, it's not being lazy when the set isn't ripped apart as much as the NES equivalents.

Hmm...It's interesting that you were able to find all that information, insectduel .
But...how do you plan on prosecuting someone who does "steal" your information? There's no need to be scared that your findings will be "stolen", if they ever are. Meh, I can see this thread ending soon . |

Nicely done, Insectduel. I dunno if I'll ever hack SMAS, but I'll use this if I do .

My file is actually in the File Manager. I couldn't add another navi. Cost Money If I'm a prenium user. There's a chance that my document won't go down if it's in my File Manager.
If you guys need to host my document on your website, you must give full credit since I found mostly everything except the TSA's. |

Originally posted by Raccoon Sam I gave them to Hukka a while ago. He said he's using them in SMB3 Workshop. But I wonder who's going to do the TSA Graphical Code. I want this editor in the SNES ROM look like the ones themselves and not the NES crappy look. |

Yeah.
I basically know nothing about how SNES graphics work, but if it's not too complicated I guess I can add support for SNES ROM graphics in SMB3WS. Someone'll have to point me to some information on how the graphics are stored in the SMAS ROM, though. I'm currently having some hardware problems with my PC and also have other projects to work on, so it'll be a while until I'll touch SMB3WS. |
