So, it's really true that it's really common with PS2's having trouble reading CD's? I keep hearing alot of people saying that, but never about X-box, Dreamcast or Gamecube...

Lately I been kind of envy at dreamcast owners becuse of the homebrewing scene. Shame that console did die too early commercially. :/ Though the homebrew scene is alive and kicking.

Meh, I don't know why it's called mod chips. Honestly, isn't it more of a hack than a "mod"? Most time I hear people mentioning mods, it's about the looks and not about hacking the hardware.

I think it has to do with the model of the PS2. Just like early PSX units had problems reading some disks, if memory serves me correctly.

I heard there's 12-16 diffrent models of the PS2.

And the Gamecube like 3 of them... maybe four. Don't know about X-box.

There were a ton of different PSX models as well but I'm talking about maybe the first model or two. You're bound to get a couple of lemons when you're just starting to produce a system.

I just read something interesting in my little brother's PC magazine. Itīs illegal to mod your PC too much due to the radiation it emits.

Good thing I didnīt mod my PC then.

Shit, that's why I was advised not to put those Uranium 238 in my PC case to replace the LEDs!

So then I wonder how stores that sell modding tools and companies that make components designed for modding stay in business? Radiation, what the hell.

Yeah, I wonder that too. Apparently, the radiation can disturb flight-radio, police-radios and other stuff.

I donīt know more than that because my little brother brought the magazine with him.

The only modding I've ever done to a system was to break out the little plastic pegs in my SNES to get Panel de Pon to work in it.

Which isn't much, I guess, but I don't really have anything else I would even need to mod.

Ah, well that's different (radio interference != radiation). As long as you're not like right next door to an airport, police station, or hospital, I can't see it being much problem. (Most cases don't even have RF shielding. Hell, the monitors cause much more interference. Mine jams nearby radios. )

You meant, "If you cut a hole and replace the exterior of it with plexiglass" or something.

Not like I would reccomend doing that. It's there for protection against the raditation and even if it dosen't disturb humans, it probably winds up disturbing other equipmnt of yours.

Bet there's a few modders with jumpy screen problems.

I took up modding about 2 months ago and so far have wried up a snes controller to a nes and have also now wired up my n64 controller up to usb and have made noise canceling headphones. I plan on making a portable snes if possible (though i'll need to fork out some money for a screen as gba screens are not supposed to work.
