They're not the first 6th seed to get into the Super Bowl, or the first 6th seed to win the Super Bowl... But they ARE the first 6th seed to defeat the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd seeds of thier own conference on the way to the Super Bowl, and then defeat the 1st seed of the other conference in the Super Bowl.

Honestly though, I'd be surprised if the steelers went any better than 75% on the season next year. They put on an awful show in the Super Bowl - Defeating a Bengals team that lost thier pro-bowl QB on the first snap, a Colts team using the same plan the Chargers had laid out week sago, and a Broncos and Seahawks team that failed to show up. Add this on top of 11 of thier starters going up for free agency, and the loss of thier short-yardage back... I think Bengals win the division again next year, Steelers stay somewhere between .500 and .750 on the season.

My favorites for the big teams next year: Chicago Bears (Rex Grossman at QB obviously - He took a team that was struggling to put up 7 offensive points a game and put up 22 against the Panthers in the playoffs), Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks (If they keep Shaun Alexander), Denver Broncos (If they get T.O. they basically have one year to win it all before he explodes the team), Iniannapolis Colts.

You can say what you want about the Steelers' performance in the playoffs, but the fact remains that from the middle of the season people doubted they could make them at all. And then predictions favored their opponents in all rounds of the playoffs. The Seahawks were strong this year, too, and the Steelers rose to the challenge and played a hard-fought game, with iffy calls on both sides, to win. I just think it's a shame that watching it from Britain I got the British commentators rather than the American ones.

As a Steelers fan, it was an epic season, even more so for my father and brother, who managed to get tickets to the Super Bowl as well as one of the playoff games.

Yeah, it wasn't really a wonderful game, but it was still exciting to watch in the company of die-hard fans for both teams, as you might expect.
