I actually like the simplistic look of the NES version better, and it does have something that the SNES version lacks.

I love the 8-bit Mario, I really do, but Mario All-Stars was just wonderful. I'm always for a tune up in graphics and sounhd when the gameplay remains true.

So I would like that new Megaman X remake.

Sarcasm duly noted. However...

glitch
n.

1. A minor malfunction, mishap, or technical problem; a snag

In other words, something that *gasp* shouldn't have been there!

I don't know about you, but I'm not one to praise a game because of its glitches. =/

Quoted for truth. Exploitable or not, glitches always are angrifying to me, considering they usually occur at the worse possible moment in the worse possible way.

Not to mention, in this case, the superficial differences do matter, considering the two objects being compared are the exactly the same gameplay wise, level design wise, and plot wise.

You're damn right we are =P

Glitches that are either fixed or made harder in SMAS:
World 36
Wall jump
Hat stomp
Jumping from a mushroom/flower
High bounce in SMB2j

And probably some more that I'm not thinking about right now. On these points, the NES version is the clear winner, and these glitches add to my enjoyment of the game. It's the same reason I hate SMBDX (well, that and the screwed-up scrolling).

NES SMB is much easier to do. But SNES SMB is much hard to make when i'm a SMB hacker. The data is almost the same except for Castle objects and the ones in the F row. The point about the SNES version is that the gameplay no longer act like the NES version such as some crazy glitches I created. I'd say the NES is more better than the SNES.

I voted NES SMB, mainly because of what Shadic mentioned here:

Also, as great as the graphical and auditory improvements were, I think the original NES game just had that nostalgic quality that SMAS lacked in general (with the exception of NES SMB2, which was not quite as good as the updated version). When I think of SMB, I don't see the updated graphics, nor do I hear the improved sounds. Instead, I remember how Mario would walk through the blue sky of world 1-1 in the demo, sometimes slightly glitching up and running into a pipe instead of running and stomping a goomba like he was supposed to, and then pressing Start to be greeted by the familiar beeping and booping of the game's music and sounds.

But, then again, this is just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to have his or her own. If you disagree with me, that's perfectly fine.

I know it's off topic but... This really gets me. It's just... So out of character of everything. It's not like anything anyone ever says.

No.. It's just unlike anything you've ever said.
I love NES Mario, mainly because it's a throwback for me. It was the first game i ever played, and I still love it. It brrings back so many fond memmories.

God damnit. I can't change my vote. Whatever bull I said about the SNES Mario Bros...

I mean, I still love it, it's awesome, and I love revisiting a classic with beefed up happy joy...

But DAMN, I forgot how good a game Mario Bros. was when it came out! I mean, holy CRAP was it good for it's day! Aside from maybe Tetris or Pacman, some would argue, I'd say it's the most influencial and ground breaking game ever made.

I voted SMAS simply because the Super NES was the console that I grew up with and the first game I got for it was SMAS + World limited edition. I only ever played the NES Mario Bros. afterwards and the visuals and sound are rubbish. But that's just my opinion. If you played the NES version first, then you probably get a feeling of nostalgia that you just don't get on the SNES.

I personally prefer the SNES version of the game; to me, it's not important which was more groundbreaking for the time, but what's more fun now. And I rather enjoy the SNES one better, last I checked.

Although, on the plus side, the original's graphics are nice and simple to mess with. Still doesn't make much of a difference, though.

One thing I found to be missing in the SNES form is that I could *not* get into World -1. Yeah, it was mentioned already, and the glitch I noticed in Super Mario All-Stars (at least this worked in both SMB1 and The Lost Levels) was being able to get an additional jump right after a power-up, if timed to go immediately as gameplay continues. I got that down to an art with the mushroom...not quite as often with flower, and gameplay doesn't halt for the star.

There were other exploits though, that you could only perform on the Super NES version. On a note, we could go on about this forever, as there are so many positives and negatives for both versions.

All told, I'd have to say there's something nicer about the first release, 'specially with that in mind. First release. It was...original. Far more original than anything we've see in the last 15 years. Granted, it's older than a fair number of people on the board, but still. It's that originality and success with a new genre so early on which has made four series in particular so-well selling, and with so bloody sequeals (I refer to Mario, Zelda, Megaman/Rockman, and Final Fantasy).

So...I'm still holding to the NES version.

Well, If I was around when the original NES version was released, I would have to agree, but again, I get massive nostalgia of my early childhood playing the SNES version.
