Eh. It was mean, but I'm fairly certain it was timed appropriately so that no one was offended.
And randomly throwing that out there at a time like this... IS rather a recipe for fun. |

Now I want a simulation of a nuke going off in Seattle...
Anyway, it's interesting but hopefully it doesn't give such evil people any ideas. |

Like people who actually have atomic weapons and the means to do this are going to go on the internet to this website and go... "You know what... I think I'll dig up the nuclear weapon I have in the shed and go for it! That website really convinced me."
That's why I laugh when people say that the newspeople are giving terrorists ideas. Yeah, like they already didn't know how to make shoebombs and hijack planes. |

Ever wondered what nuclear blast actually looks like before the mushroom cloud? |

Something else to consider from that scenario they posted. That was 150 kilotons. Not up to a megaton yet. M' dad was in the Air Force, spefically, a missile-launch officer, and described to me the effects of detonating a 1 megaton bomb on the ground (since that's not classified info...). I don't have the specs in terms of time from the blast and overpressure, etc., but still, something to think about.
The detonation will create a crater half a mile deep and a mile wide. Also, the absolute kill zone is about a 10-mile radius. That means, all life within 10 miles of the blast will die. Not even a cockroach, a microbe, or Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones would live through it. I forget the range on a probable kill. Something else I remember is what dad said about the bombs dropped on Hiroshima & Nagasaki...compared to the ones that were availible when he was still comissioned, they were, at that time (about mid-80's), considered "battlefield" strength. They're not WMD's anymore. |

Werenīt those in Nagasaki and Hiroshima 20-30 Megaton ones? But I guess that they were created differently back then. Else theyīde be like 100 times more powerful if they were created today.

Technically, it's classified, but I think there were in the thereabouts of 10-15 kilotons. That's it. Both those were fission bombs...everything in the US arsenal has been fusion for decades. Remember that building codes weren't are good back then.

Oh yes, now I remember. They were kiloton ones, I think Iīve read that in a book we have at school.
Say, would it be possible to build an A-bomb that could incinerate every continent in one blast? |

A-bomb = fission
H-bomb = fusion Of course it's possible...but that thing would have to be *enormous*. Might blow a crater clear to the mantle. Of course, nothing would survive such a blast, even if it didn't burn absolutely everything. |
