Sonic Robo Blast 2

What is it?

Well, someone decided to use a doom 2 engine to slap together a sonic game. (Other than knuckles uhh... not-so-home-made gfx) Everything in the game is nice.

What's so 'Online' About it?

Well, you can set up a server with the amount of people you want to join the game (at maximum), and the game type (Co-op, match, team match, race, capture the flag). In match, you simply throw rings at eachother, including several different power ups that stack onto eachother to make your shots better.

THIS IS SO COOL! I wish I could make a level...

Well, you can! Simply open up a doom2 editor and select an SRB2 main file before editing and voila! you can make your own levels! (Of course, you will need the srb2 gfx.wad to get all the texture and sprite previews right.)

Exited yet? Well, go download it!

Just recently started playing it.

Intresting how well it works as a platform game, considering it's based off Doom... although I wish the 3rd person camera worked better. And 1st person view just feels wierd on a platform game so...

And oh, making levels is not hard. Doom is one of the easiest games to devolop for.

A few notes though..

1. The 'easter egg' secret (if you beat the demo and looked at the list) is available during easter week. During the time (yes you can set your computer clock forward to trick the game...) 20 easter eggs will be hidden within the game. Find them all and you get a preview of what'll be in the full game.

2. Unless your a GOD at 3-D sonic games or doom games, it's near impossable to beat the 'beat the game in 6 1/2 mins or less' unlockable. On top of this, you only need your total statistical time of the 9 game levels to equal 06:30:00 or less.

3. Try hoping on the roof of one of the houses on GHZ1 3 or 4 times. talk to the guy that appears outside afterward for a surprise!! (just go near him, he'll talk to u)

4) If your ever stuck on something, goto the srb2 forum and look around BEFORE posting a help topic.

This is a joke right? SRB2 was an unprofessionaly made, unengaging excuse for a game. Sonic 3 and Knux is easily the best Sonic game yet. Classic gameplay + Knux. What could be better.

The game also has two different control modes, Analog off and Analog on. In Analog off, the game feels like doom but with third person jumping, in Analog on however, make the controls feel more like that of a 3D platformer, and the camera becomes much easier to work with as it's no longer fixed to the back of your head.

My settings:
Forwards: Up.
Backward: down.
Left: Left.
Right: Right.
Strife: (NOT USABLE WITH ANALOG ON)
Camera left: S
Camera Right: A
(I know I have those flipped, feels more natural to me)

There are more controls then that but that's all I need to use. I only complaint I have about the camera is the look of a simplfied First Person View mode to look around in.

Well it's free for on thing so that's a plus.

...

Hmm... Analog on mode doesn't seem to be allowed in online play.

Making Doom 2 levels is just so bloody boring though. Unreal engine modding is so much more fun. Modding goodness will abound in UT2007 XD .
