Heres the catch though, the only shift i can work is Midnite-5am (mon-fri) because of my school schedule.
I have 1 class on Mon+Wed from 11:00-1:20pm and 2 classes on Tues+Thurs, from 9:30-10:50am and 4:30-5:50pm. |

I agree with the rink maintenance vehicle because of the way your Tuesday and Thursday classes are scheduled. I don't see much room for a good long sleep on those days. If all of your classes were in the morning or at night, it would seem much more doable to me. It looks like your best option for sleeping on Tuesdays and Thursdays would be between 6ish and 10-11ish. Would it bother you to only get 4-5 hours of sleep on those days every single week? Also, it would probably take you some time to switch over to that sleep schedule, and you'd be sleep-deprived until then.

You'd end up sleeping in lectures just like I do. It's possible, but I wouldn't encourage doing it every day

See. I'm for it.
Because it is a job you need. And as for the hours, as bad as they are, you still manage to get a few hours of sleepage. Something you did in Florida while studying. The only difference is now, instead of being online all the time you are working which is more exhausting but still.. Your choice really. I encourage whatever decision you make. Except...weren't you going to wait a week for the other options? |

you could break your sleep apart. For must of the past three semesters, my longest consecutive hours of sleep were 5-6 hours. With an extra hour when I go to school on the metro at around 7-8am, and another hour when I go home on the metro at 7-8pm. If I get anything less than that 5-6 hour block, it usually sucks.
Although, if he can push the tuesday classes together, that work work better, becase the largest block of sleep appears to be just 5 hours... |

Staying up all night for almost every night isn't healthy...It's always good to have some daily doses of sunshine.
...But then again, money comes first . |

You just need to shuffle your schedule. Sleep after class until it's time to go to work. Between work and your first class you have a few hours to do whatever.

Theres no pushing classes together this semester. I have to work with that crappy schedule.
I would rather get a job with better hours, but Ive been applying for over a month now and nothing. This one is the only sure fire job I can get right now. Im sure it will sure crazy style at first util I get used to it (if i get used to it). And once Summer hits it will be no problem because I wont have school. My only concern is that the lack of sleep will hurt me school-wise. Im gonna give it another few weeks, and if nothing turns up I will go for it. |

You can still do better. First off, in Canada the recommendation is that you don't work more than 15 hours during the week if you're in school; your proposed job hours total 25. Secondly, even if you don't feel too bad after one week of working and getting very little rest between the end of your shift/class, it's going to catch up to you both mentally and physically.
Even if I was actively looking for a job and that was the only one offered to me, I'd turn it down. Keep looking. |

If you shuffle your sleep schedule, you won't get less of it. It will just be different times. That means less social life, but it's part of getting a job. Something's gotta give, and that's the most obvious. Sleep when you get home from work, sleep when you get home from school, do homework and studying when you feel most awake in the day, whenever that may be.
I say do it. You can handle it. Just imagine it like a normal day, a few hours of school and 5 hours of work. Still plenty of time for sleep/anything else. |

The best plan is to draw up a timetable.
For a well-functioning brain, you need 9 1/4 hours of sleep. The minimum for a good brain is 8 hours. Midnight-5am Mon-Fri, this leaves the weekend for extra sleep and homework time. Monday + Wednesday: 7:00am to 10:30am Sleep/Prepare for class 11:00am to 1:20pm Class 1:30pm to 5:00pm Homework and Assignments 5:00pm to 5:30pm Dinner and maybe some Leisure. 5:30pm to 11:30pm Sleep. Have your alarm set for 11:30pm. 12:00am to 5:00am Job Tuesday + Thursday: 5:00am to 7:00am Sleep. 7:00am to 7:30am Breakfast. 7:30am to 9:00am Sleep or Homework. 9:30am to 10:50am Class 11:00am to 1:00pm Homework and Assignments 1:00pm to 4:00pm Sleep and/or Study. 4:30pm to 5:50pm Class 6:00pm to 11:30pm Homework, Assignments, then sleep. 12:00am to 5:00am Job 5:30am to 7:00am Breakfast then Leisure or whatever you want. See, I've balanced work, class, homework, sleep and leisure all for you. Its possible to do this, but its up to you. (edited by mvent2 on 02-05-06 01:40 AM) |

Aw thanks.
So are you going to take up this job? EDIT: Oops, forgot dinner on Tues/Thurs schedule and I didn't take lunch into account either. I'm sure you can fit those in somewhere. (edited by mvent2 on 02-05-06 03:40 AM) (edited by mvent2 on 02-05-06 03:40 AM) |

Oh they will, they are DESPERATE for people to work the 12-5am shift. They also really want to give those jobs to students, but because most students are smart enough not to work that late, and others spend those hours in a drunken stooper, Im golden

Sion: Your funeral. I certainly wouldn't work with that schedule which sees you basically take power naps instead of long, restful sleeps. It's still going to catch up with you in the end. |
