omg Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers was so ace. The game was even better, i played that games for hours on end. My NES used to over heat when i got real far. So great.

The only gd game i can think of thats based of media, is the simpson hit & run. Its quiet a great game.

Ah, Iīve beaten Chip 'n Dale too. Several times.

It was quite easy when I had beaten it once. The music rocked too.

Simpsons for the arcade = FANTASTIC. That was when Konami was in the "we LOVE 4-player fighters" mode, and they generally hit home runs with that format. (Cases in point: TMNT and X-Men.)

Hm. Nobody has mentioned Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I beat the first one in like 18 hours.

Yeah, but generally speaking the Star Wars games aren't that bad.

If you want to be absolutely raped difficulty-wise, play the trilogy for the SNES. My god... Sadistic. But good.

Eh, there were a couple of crappy ones though. The fighting one for PS sucked. I wasn't a fan of a couple of the recent shooters either.

Word to that. Difficulty-wise, it's incredibly forgiving. You essentially have infinite lives. Thus, even little kids and complete newbies can have fun with it...but it has a ton of secrets and replay value, so it isn't boring for more advanced gamers. You'll need to unlock characters and then go back into levels to solve puzzles that only those characters can do.

I loved DuckTales as a kid. I used to play it over and over and over and over again. Chip 'n Dale rocked, too. But my favorite media spinoff game of all time is The Addams Family, a SNES platformer based on the first movie. The game features an expansive, detailed map with a good amount of nonlinearity and loads of secret rooms and minor nooks and crannies for you to find. Because it's easy to rack up a ton of extra lives and there is no instant death in the game (spikes, hot stuff, and the like just hurt you, and bottomless pits are actually doors), the game encourages you to goof around, and that's the way I found pretty much all of the secret rooms that Nintendo Power didn't list. The basic game mechanics (play control, hit detection) and graphics and sound are pretty polished, and the difficulty is quite reasonable for most people to handle, but it's the fricking ginormous mansion that really sends the game into the ZOMG AWESOME category for me. I spent months exploring and trying to find everything. It was actually somewhat of a letdown when I got the ROM years later and found the room list and saw that I was only missing three.

The Addams Family?
...
Damn! I knew I was forgetting an obvious one. I had that game and it was awesome. By the way, have you ever tried stabbing the centipede boss with the sword item? If you do so, while there is more than one on the screen, it will sometimes bug out and give you a ton of points (around 850,000) before finally reaching the password screen.

! Another fan!

I never tried that, but it sounds like a real laff riot. The only glitch I found was when I was messing around with ZSNES and the infinite fez cheat. I flew above the ceiling in the treasury and probably shoved some pointer out of bounds - the graphics remained normal, but the level data was kerplooey and I had to reset. It was rather amusing, though (and it makes me wonder what happens if you fly above the nasty judge room...)

Your words intrigued me and caused me to go check. The top of the judge's room has a proper "invisible roof" and you can't cause the game to screw up there. I did go and see what you meant by the treasury, though. Freaky stuff.

The most recent game that was somewhat fun and was based on a movie license was Toy Story 2.

Though I stopped playing after awhile, as that game get's very annoying if you want to collect everything... and it's not beating SM64. :/ Yeah, it's a SM64 clone in a way...

...Um, yeah. That's not really recent and there's been movie games that have come out after that which were notably better. :\

On the Star Wars front, there are rumors that we may be seeing Lego Star Wars II soon.

You're dead to me.

That game was AWESOME! It had a bunch of unlockable characters and although everyone was more or less clones, it rocked. Man, I used to play that game ALL THE TIME! That was my favorite early PSX game.

What, Masters of Teras Kasai? (sp?)

Dude, that game was based off of the Star Wars novels that came out around the time. There's so much crap that you have to ask yourself about in that game... Like how the hell you can beat Darth Vader with Han Solo or why Boba Fett was even in it. It was fanboy fuel, pure and simple. For early PSX it was a good game, but there's just... so much better out there. Like, you know, Soul Edge. And Marvel Vs. Capcom.

I remember the AAAAH! Real Monsters game for SNES. That was pretty fun, I guess...

But what really got me was the influx of early 90s Looney Tunes games for most of the consoles out there. A lot of those were pretty good. I particularly liked the original NES Tiny Toons game. There were also the Mickey Mouse games for SNES. Mickey Mania, Ultimate Challenge, and Magical Quest were all great. Then something weird happened and they all started sucking until Kingdom Hearts came out. >.> Now I'm waiting until April 6th to see just how badass Mickey Mouse can really be.

I havenīt played Marvel vs. Capcom on the real arcade but Onslaught was a bitch to beat. He was immune to most super moves.

I have to say that I think the original poster is really looking through the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia. A good percentage of the games he mentioned (The Simpsons games, the Ren & Stimpy game) are actually rather bad if one goes back and plays them now. Heck, they weren't very good even then.

One game based on a license that didn't suck: Sunsoft's Batman game for the NES. Kickass soundtrack, pretty damn hard, just good stuff overall.

Willow for NES was a fun little RPG-type game too.

As I recall, Willow was a pretty cool game. I played through most of it years ago, but I was a dumbass and went up to Bavmorda before leveling enough to damage her, and I hadn't saved in a while after having done a bunch of difficult stuff, so I got annoyed and never got around to beating the game. Blarg.
