On a serious note, I see it says "last view" instead of "last activity" now.

That, and it doesn't say "16000" days in profiles if they never posted, and the // problem is fixed in threads (that took forever)

Hmm, that attachment feature... is very awesome. Though broken, it would will be awesome once it works.

...Would attatchments work like the commons, in that the files are hosted right on the board server, or would they have to be externally linked?

And good job on removing the slashes. I had to remove all my contractions in the poll I made so the slashes would leave. Contractions are fun

No, those were only on the post sidebar (no number/bar graphics) would have a normal slash and a graphic slash.

The poll bug still needs fixed. :/

They'd be hosted here, as attachments usually are (since, obviously, it'd make little/no sense to have them externally linked.)

...

Planning this is difficult...

Let's review:

Posting replies with attachments
Main problem: Previewing; how would they be tracked throughout?

Possible solutions, and why they won't work:

- Uploading them as standard attachments. Why won't it work? There is no post-ID associated with them; it would have to be associated with it afterward, which would prove difficult. What if they didn't reply? That would cause a problem, as it would be very hard to tell if they stopped replying, or if they are simply visiting another page, or if they are typing a novel (it happens.)

- Uploading as temporary attachments. Same problem; tracking them would be fairly easier (they could be made into standard attachments after the reply is posted), but if they stopped replying...

- Having a seperate popup for attachments: Good idea in theory, but how to communicate what happens back to the main window? This would work best with edit post, and is a good idea.

- Simply saying not to preview if you're using attachments: Yeah, right. No one would listen to that one...

- Disregarding them and forcing upload again on attachments: Would make life easy, but potentially piss off tons of people if you're uploading large files

...

Any further ideas or insights would be very, very welcome.

While we're waiting, I'm just going to make a blanket statement and say

Also why not set something up so once you put in an attachment, previewing becomes impossible?

Hrm, might sound annoying, but this might work. Have the upload attachment file on the post preview page. So when you post, you preview the post, then attach the file and reply at the same time. Whats the difference in previewing a post with an attachment as apposed to one without an attachment? The attachment itself. Nothing else magically changes for them to need to check again.

What's the gaurnetee someone who pushes "Preview" will also not have added an attachment? There's no way to tell unless I want to add multiple things to the IF, and even then, it'd be fairly weird if you hit Preview and it posted.

I meant that like, set up a script so that if an attachment is selected, then preview is grayed out and nothing happens if you click it. I've seen it done before

Couldn't you do something like set up a boolean flag, then set it when the user attaches something, and have a condition that preview only works if the flag isn't set?

Is something like that possible?

Or just leave a note saying to use Post Preview for adding attachments.

i think the easier solution to this is if the person puts an attachment, and does preview, have them suffer through the upload, however, when processing preview, have them do nothing with the attachment... aren't attachments in PHP required to be saved, otherwise, they will be discarded at somepoint because they are initially saved to a temp file?

javascript is the only way to provide more ease to the user...but we might as well push it on to the user to be a little smart about things...

move_uploaded_file, I think. They're terminated after the script ends.

I'll just leave it on post preview and ... well, now what? Remove previewing again from it? flskdghsdlkj
