First off, a big hello to everyone here at the Acmlm Forum. Please allow me to introduce myself, and forgive me if this post gets a bit lengthy...I do tend to froth at the keyboard quite a bit.
My name is Kirk Bradford Myers. Yes, I did use my real name, as I really don't like hiding behind a moniker...I don't believe it to be too genuine and up front. I live in good ol' Baltimore Maryland with my fiancee Janet (whom I plan on marrying in May of 2007), and my cat Midnight. I am interested in and undertaking many creative ventures, the most significant of which are my music and my works of literature. I am currently writing and recording music for a progressive instrumental rock project, One With The Computer, under my current label, KBMyers Records, and am also planning on writing and hopefully publishing the first of a four-book series of science-fiction novels, which will be titled "Dawg - Part 1: Genocis". In addition to the above mentioned, my interests include photography, ancient Egyptian lure, cats, sports (particularly football), classic cars, anime, bowling, music concerts of all types, long car trips, and of course spending quality time with the little woman! I am generally open-minded, and am always willing to try new and different things. This outlook on life is what no doubt led my interests toward the area of ROMhacking about four years ago. I am a big fan of video games and emulation in particular, and I was motivated to try my hand at hacking ROMs after looking at some of the interesting things that others have achieved through doing so. I remember sitting there playing 8-bit NES games back in the day and thinking "Man, this game would have been perfect if only this and this and this were changed!" When I realized that, through the magic of emulation, there was now an outlet for this mode of thinking and that now the games as they were COULD actually be changed... well, I knew I had to be a part of that scene! My premise behind hacking NES games in particular was not to make "new" or "competely rewritten" versions of the games, so to speak, but rather to vastly improve on the games as they originally were and to turn them into the games that Nintendo should have released to us 20 years ago if they had taken just a bit more care and effort with them. Four years of sitting in the background and practicing and improving on my ROMhacking skills have brought the aforementioned philosophy to light in the form of a new and upcoming Metroid hack I call "Metroid Begins". What is that? Well, much as I like surprises, I'll let the cat peek his head out of the bag a little bit... "Metroid Begins" will be released on these boards as well as Zophar's Domain on August 6th, 2006, and will be touted as the twentieth-anniversary edition of the game "Metroid". It's premise, much like that of Metroid: Zero Mission, is to re-create the original NES "Metroid" in it's own image and likeness, basing it on the original design and game maps, all while tightening up the level design and gameplay greatly, vastly improving all the graphics, adding new puzzles, and making better use of available weapons and game programming features while adding a few devious little things of my own creation and design in there. After four years of messing around with the Metroid ROM, the game is almost ready for final playtesting. There are still a couple of small things I want to do to it before I post screenshots, but I'll just say this... "Metroid Begins" is going to make "Metroid" just look like a halfway-decent attempt at a first draft! Granted, you will be impressed... That enough about me for now. See you all out on the boards. Kudos! |

You severely overuse the bolding of text.
And August 6th just happens to be my birthday. Aww, thanks. Welcome, enjoy your stay, kick some ass. |

Thanks for the welcome, peoples. Much appreciated.
Koneko, sorry about the liberal use of bolding. See, there I go again! Just trying to emphasize a few important points 'bout myself... Danielle, I love your background pic! I've been trying to put one in my posts, no luck. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong... Synthrax, methinks a forty-five chapter novel is a bit much for a first post...wouldn't want to give away all my trade secrets. Cruel Justice, Matt Daemon??? Coal mines?? Good Lord! Oh, well, such is the way of the hazing. Somebody get me my pickax... Apofisu, KBM or KBMyers or Kirk, any of these will be fine. Metroid Begins screenshots coming soon. Just trying to work in those last few bugs... Kudos! (edited by Kirk Bradford Myers on 01-30-06 11:27 AM) |

You guys have a problem with excessive bolding?
Ah... another intelligent person to brighten this little community we call "acmlm" ... quite a lot to read as well. Either way... a couple things Id like to point out... Baltimore Maryland. Suprisingly enough, thats within driving distance from where I live...(an hour at any rate). Just something I found interesting. A cat. Any specific breed? Music as well... personally I thats a big *pardon my horrendous spelling* achievement to get your own record label. A metroid hack... very nice. Personally, I found the old metroid a little hard to traverse, but hey, what did I know back then? I was like... 7? Good luck with that. Unfortunately, Zophars, from what Ive heard, is dead.... However, the good news is we have a site for you to put to good use Anyways... if you find the time, check out the Brain Teaser forum [/selfless promotion]... it could use some more activity Im looking forward to seeing you around |

You seem like a very intresting dynamic individual. Welcome to milly's ..
I'd like to know the premise of your science fiction novel, if I'm not prying too much. |

Wow, even your middle name. I think I'll change my user name to Jonathan Barkwell Smithers. Except yours makes more sense because it's actually your name. (edited by emcee on 01-31-06 05:43 AM) |

Hey, it's your birthday.
You remind me a whole lot of Schwa, a hacker/role-player. |
