you beat starmie with assistance with potions

the game is balanced enough that any one pokemon will be sufficient; it is just a matter of personality if it was only possible to beat any of the pokemon games with just one pokemon...

Well, I have gone through the RSE games using only one type on several occasions. Quite fun. However, using just one Pokemon isn't fun at all. In fact, it's nothing but a bore in my opinion. Oh well, I suppose we all have our own views on things.

The inclusion of Mankey on Rt. 27 was a HUGE advantage that early on in the game. Its almost as though FR/LG tried to make things a little easier for Chamrnander players (Metal Claw, a fighting type early on?)

I made the comment because all this talk about starting pokemon choice reminded me of single character Final Fantasy 1 runs...

Yeah, Misty knocked my Pikachu out in FireRed and then it was Charmeleon vs, Starmie. I barely made it.

Mankey wasn´t to think about since Starmie is part Psychic.

SQUIRTLE SQUIRTLE ahlahalhalha

Uh, yeah, I go with Squirtle most of the time
because Blastoise is awesome and I made it rhyme
Always just chooses Venusaur
Who always dies in twenty-four (seconds)
I teach Blastoise Ice Beam and then he dies
After that, I win the prize.

So yeah, with Bubblebeam, Ice Beam, and Bite or something, Blastoise is pretty awesome and beats all the other starting Pokemon. I don't think Charizard can do that, at least not well. Maybe he'd learn thunder.

Mankey still learns some normal attacks and you could have taught him either or both Mega Punch/Mega Kick just before Cerulean city. Also, Starmie learns no Psychcic moves on its own naturaly (with the exception of Cosmic Power at level 46 as a Staryu), and gym leader Pokemon never have any TM moves that aren't the one they give to you afterwards.

Well, the reason I didn´t teach Mankey Megakick/Megapunch was that I wanted to save them for later use so I don´t waste them on a pokemon I don´t want them at.

I wanted to try out some more fighting pokemon first.

You won't want them much later anyway. Very innacurate, not worth it when you can get stronger moves later on (and they are both Normal attacks, which lowers their usefullness even more)

Weird; I think that Mega Kick hits pretty often for me. But then, it´s just for someone to use Double team a couple of times and you won´t hit them.

And you don´t really need Mega Punch/Kick to beat Misty.

Speaking of which, I heard of someone who soloed Blue with a Weedle. Not a Beedrill, but a Weedle.

That was nuts.

Charmander. If you managed to defeat the first two gyms, your Charmander will be almost unstoppable. But yeah, starting out hard always has the better outcome.

Well, RBY is not as balanced as the later Pokémon games. I know for sure it's possible to only use one Pokémon through the whole game.

I just wouldn't reccomend you to do that unless you have nothing better to play. :/ And it should be much harder in Firered.

Then, Pokémon isn't that much of a challanging game. Unless you do PvP battles...

Through the whole game is SUPER-impossible. Charmander and Bulbasaur don't learn Surf... Blastoise doesn't learn Cut. And other things. These are things you need to complete the game!

With my statement, I assumed that the user in question was using a slave-pokémon for thoose skills.

Meh, if I knew about the mew glitch earlier, I would have a switch-army-mew slave around for every replay I do.

I had a Mewslave early, for all HMs, whas quite confience.

I started with Bulba, as I just like green. (But I played Blue).

Oh right. Yeah, the guy did use a HM slave for the required moves, but the were never used to battle in any capacity.

Regardless, you know exactly what I mean.

Hmm, it only existed 4 HMs back then, right? Else you wouldn´t have been able to have all HMs on Mew.

And I don´t think it´s fun to beat the game with only one pokémon.
