Now, originally I wasn't going to even release this demo now. Only three worlds are complete, which totally (Totally!) isn't an even number. However, it's been so freaking long since I last posted that I was even working on one (not counting that one thread a few days ago about movement pipes) that I just figured I might as well.
Things you can expect from this hack:
This is what we in "the biz" call a title screen. If you don't watch the title screen demonstration all the way through... Uh, you're missing out, I guess. These are overworld shots. Duh. This is the graveyard. See the statues, and fence, and ghosts, and skeletons? It's totally a graveyard. Totally. Some sort of crystal cave in the sky. It made more sense in my head. Also, look at the eyetites. Ha ha, wacky. Can YOU find the secret levels? After leaving the first world, Mario travels further into the newly discovered section of Dinosaur Land, discovering that his enemies have robbed the world of the majority of its color, leaving only depression! What a fiendishly cliched development! This cave is less in the sky than the previous one, and also it's more depressed. These screenshots aren't really ordered at all. It's a castle. And there's ghosts. The second level. It contains stuff. Ah, the obligatory water level. For some crazy idea I also decided to make a water WORLD. Don't worry, it's not in this demo. But it will be in the next one. It's a bonus stage. Glyph punched me until I agreed to make a new one. Not pictured: Fun. With that out of the way, I'll link you to the demo. http://www.geocities.com/kyoujicrap/MarRet.zip (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 01-29-06 10:52 PM) |

I remember this hack. It was one of those "good potential" hacks I commented on. The "attack of the Luigis" screenshot looks interesting. I'm downloading the hack now...

Seriously, that's too much like the original. Try again. It's not bad; just really empty. Spruce it up. Too predictable. The others are fine. |

I'm glad you decided to continue this, I love'd the demo you sent me last time and I'm guessing by the screenshots you've worked on it since then.

Insofar as I can tell, that's the extend of the similarities... It plays completely differently. Originally posted by >8(That I shall grant you. It's a fairly short section pictured, and not the wisest choice for a screenshot. Originally posted by >8(Could you elaborate on this point? Originally posted by SecretGlitchY'know, I noticed that myself not too long ago. Near as I can tell, it started when the ROM got big enough that it needed to be expanded to 4MB... But maybe it was always like that, even in the original, and I just never noticed. If anyone knows what to do to make them move, just tell me |

This hack looks awesome. The screens are all good, except for the cave one, sorta bland. (edited by Sparx on 01-29-06 10:53 PM) (edited by Sparx on 02-20-06 04:19 PM) |

This hack is made of win and God.
Secret level 2 is great XD Though in star world 2, (not one?) the 2 message blocks near the yellow yoshi egg have no messages. |

Downloading the hack now...some comments on the screens in the mean time...
1. Are you going for some kind of curtain border in the title screen? Because if you are it looks terrible. It just looks like an ugly blob of blue. True to add some more detail to it and make it look more like a curtain if that's what you're going for. Plus, the "Mario's Return" text looks sloppy and squeezed together in some places...you can do better. 2. Wow, the original Star Road with a new castle and rock, impressive . 3. Not bad, but you can seriosuly do better with that one pixel level title text. 4. Looks good, but you oughta scribble some lines or something on the headstones to make them look like they have writing on them. 5. Same as 4. 6. Screen isn't showing for me. 7. Ditto. 8. Don't really get the text message...hopefully I will when I play it. 9. Oh noes...Mario and Luigi clones. Nice excessive use of those little pipes. 10. Zzzz...boring. At least from the screen alone. Also, if you look closely, the grass part of the left slope does not meet up with the grass on the flat ledge next to it. Oh...but kick-ass status bar text. 11. Also boring, but only judging from the screen. 12. I know you took this from the SMW+6 copy I gave you . Tee hee hee. But it looks good. 13. Nothing too thrilling here. 14. SMB3 Bloobers...only selling point of the screen. 15. Not sure what all those blocks do there, but it looks okay. 16. Good night. Anyway I'll play it now and see how your level designs are. |

Oh I forgot to say: The new bonus game is awesome. Now if only you can find a way to randomize the blocks, THEN it's perfect. As it is 9.9/10

Originally posted by Golden YoshiI had them like that before, and close to everyone said they didn't like it at all. Aaaanyway. For everyone commenting on the screenshots... Eh. I would rather prefer if I didn't post any screenshots at all, but then I'd get yelled at for it. Truth of the matter is, you really can't tell what a hack is by screenshots, because they fail to convey the most important part of it, the level design. The only thing screenshots do is that if a hack is absolutely terrible, they make this fact evident some of the time. |

I played through the demo, you have some good levels here. The new bonus game is very cool. The only problems I saw were the quarter circle that appears quickly at the top of the title screen, and in Teacup Isle 3, the screen starts at the bottom then scrolls up when you enter the level. Other than that is seems to be good.

No... They originally had text, but then my ROM got corrupted, and when porting the last two levels I had made over to the backup I made three days prior, I forgot to put the text for them back in.
"You've found the yellow baby Yoshi! Feed it, and it will grow up with an amazing power." "When a yellow Yoshi has something in its mouth and jumps, it crashes to the ground with a damaging shockwave to defeat enemies." (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 01-29-06 11:59 PM) |

Wrong again, Craw. I never punched you to redo the bonus stage. I might have punched you after you kept bothering me about pipes on the bonus stage and asking me to help you fix them, though.
I haven't played the actual demo yet. I'd say more about it, but I'd be lying. And that would be wrong. I guess I'll say something cryptic about how I still think the edible message boxes and goal points are clever and Mario shaped bad guys are unique and those slanted text is cool and go about my way. |

Some bugs...
Turning animation is messed up. If you duck jump up into here, you can get stuck. Holes in the scenery. |

I suck at Super Mario World period, so I'm ashamed to say that I didn't beat the first level.
Then again, it's 3AM... |

Originally posted by asdfYeah... I don't know why. I could totally fix it though... I just need to know what is supposed to be there, paste it over my replacement animation frame there (I had to change it around 'cause it caused problems with secret level 2... I still don't know why...) and win. Originally posted by asdfThanks. I'll replace that with them set to 130, probably making you die. Originally posted by asdfI knew about that, but on the resolution I use for ZSNES it was never terribly evident, so I ignored it. Since you brought it up, though, I'll make sure to make a replacement ExGFX file with that corrected. |
